Here's a marshall user. Early seventies wildness. The first real fusion band. Marshalls all over the stage and stacks too. I think the violin might be thru a marshall too. Mahavishnu orchestra were my heroes when I was a teenager. Super fast burning guitar licks. Amazing searing violin and cool violin wah solos. Jan Hammer on keyboards and old analog synths. Amazing drums. I've never heard them mentioned on this forum. If you guys don't know about them get a copy of their first album Inner Mounting Flame and prepare to be blown away. My guess is that Jeff Beck was very influenced by these guys. Of course Jan Hammer eventually played with him. These clips on youtube don't do them justice really.

Here's another one. Very fast unison lines. Still not as good as the original album. John Mclaughlin seems like he's on drugs but I doubt it because he was big into his guru Sri Chinmoy. Great drum and guitar solo at end.

This one is long, the guitar solo is way into it. More full distortion on guitar solo.

For you guys that don't know, John McLaughlin had been in Miles Davis's Band in the late sixties. And recorded Bitches Brew with Miles. That may really be the first cutting edge avant garde fusion album. Plus great album art. Miles wanted to start branching out because of Hendrix.

Yes Jazz fussion can be kick ass with a Marshall.

I've wondered if Al Dimeola Tour De Force Live was thruough a Marshall.
That was some Jazz fussion with feedback and harmoincs,in an open and dynamic type of setup.

I really like Funk Fusion with a Marshall too.

My old band used to play a version of Pick up the Pieces, with open dynamic style blues/Rock type leads, that was suprisingly crowd pleaser. We used to play some Tower Of Power too (once in a while...Late in the evening... when the owner wasn't looking)

Yea I was into John since the early 70s. The violin appears to be playing through a Fender stack in the first clip. I would buy all his stuff on DVD if it was available but for some reason they wont release it. I even bought his How I do It DVD set just to take a lesson from the man.

Hendrix picked a few licks from John for sure. "Machine Gun" comes to mind, with some of its repeated "stacked" pentatonic licks played fast. Mahavishnu were awesome on those first two albums. I also like RTF with Di meola.
