71 specs 50 watt clip on youtube

Post by VelvetGeorge » Fri Aug 10, 2007 4:23 pm

Here's another early metal panel spec 50 watt I built:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DL2LEzAieuc

This clip I blended the Royer R122 and a SM57 about 70/30. The 57 just filled in the low mids. The Royer is pannel slightly right and the 57 slightly left. The mic pres are Mackie Onyx. Into Multiface II.
There is also a hint of the camera audio in there.

No EQ or FX applied.

Enjoy!

Here's another version with some EQ applied:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zX510aR92vM

I put a low cut @ 70Hz on both mics. And added a +4.5db shelf @ 9k on the Royer. That really let the detail and presense stand out.
I tried to get more of the room sound in there as well.

Cool. You can really hear a difference between this clip and the 68 Series clip. The 50-watt power stage doesn't let all the 'peaks' come through from the notes, whereas the 100-watt power stage does. This yields a little rounder feel to the notes and it sounds a tad less mean sounding.

Very close tonewise on both the 68 Series and the 71 50-watt clips.

Awesome tone brother George!

Great that we used the same clip here as we can then say that the playing is not overly influenced by the tone, as we all can attest that when you play through different amps, they can make you go for a different feel on the guitar.

You'll soon have to start forking over the royalty payments to Mark

Ah-ha

These aren't 'Greenbacks', you have 'Blackbacks' in the cab - right?

They should be black backs. But I am pretty sure they have green covers. I'll check the codes and see exactly what I have in there.

I know they sound great!

George, here is an interior shot of your "BIG M" cab....blackbacks all the way.
Check out the sidewalls, too...those appear to be birch....but the baffle board is MDF....and the size of that soundpost... ???

That sounds GREAT!

This clip is making me seriously consider selling my '72 Super Bass and holding on to my '72 50 watt. I need money so I have to sell something and I've been having the age-old problem of what to let go of when I really don't want to sell anythinjg.

What guitar and pickup was used on that recording?

Joe
