Do Strat Sunbursts sound different?

There's more to life than just amps?

+1 on the sum of the parts.
Vintage Nitro-Cells are most resonant. The Poly fin's in new guitars are by luck & chance. A good experienced ear knows.
Some have no effect but like you said a light finish resonates better.

Yeah, I've played some that sound GREAT and others that sound horrible. I resell the less than stellar ones (to me anyway).

The '63 I have is just nuts.

Are you finding that one piece bodies sound better than 3 piece etc? I am thinking about ordering me a body from Warmoth. Like I said I really bought this thing for the neck. No one offers a 40mm slim neck profile. Thinking about a one piece alder. But I figuer that a one piece is off a older bigger tree, were the 3 piece is composed of younger smaller trees. What kind of difference in wood density etc. would there be between an old tree and a younger tree? A younger tree would be lighter and less dense right? How would that effect tone? I think you can specify a light Alder or heavier alder from Warmoth.

How much does the body weigh on that 63?

No idea. I have never weighed any of my guitars. Either a Strat feels "right" when you pick it up or it doesn't. I know, I'm weird.

I like the sunburst/s on strats,I have a 1986 or 87 usa strat that is that ugly ass grafitti yellow, but this axe knows nuthin but tone and plays like a dream, its one of the best sounding strats I have had and were talking bunches! I dont think the color has much effect on tone, more like type of finish and wood types used. my yellow Strat is ugggly!
