Cap question for the tonally obsessed

Post by gnugear » Mon Dec 17, 2007 8:59 pm

I've been running a stock superbass circuit but might go back to using a 330uf on V1B. I've had a BC Electric in there previously but I'm wondering if anyone has noticed a difference in tone or performance by using other brands like Sprague or Xicon?
Gear:
'74 Super Lead rebuilt with '68 metro board and old stock mustards.
'73 Super Lead
'68 Basketweave with pre rola G12Ms
'70 Basketweave

I've been wondering that myself.

John from Sozo Cap stated the BC's react very sluggish compared to the Sprague and other electrolytics on the market.

Can't say I've noticed myself. Hook up some caps that measure the same value and hook them up on a rotary switch. There's only a volt or two on the first stage cathode so it's not like you're switching high voltages on the fly.
