Guitar body left in freezing cold

Post by planetjimi » Wed Dec 19, 2007 5:18 pm

I got a fender body off of ebay, a new one with the poly finish. Unfortunatly the fedex guy delivered it to the house next door and it was sitting outside overnight in the cold. I just brought it in the house and am letting it warm up slowly, in the box. I was wondering if leaving it out in the freezing cold overnight will have any adverse effect on the body?
Thanks

I thought that was part of the rel icing, lacquer checking, or poly checking in your case.
It's not the cold temperature itself per see that doed the damage, it's extreme quick changes in temperature, such as if you bring the guitar in the case from the clod into a warm room or vice versa.
It will be fine. :)

I let it warm up and opened it now, and it is just perfect!!! No cracks in the finish.
Can't wait to get a neck on it!
THanks

I know of a couple of guys that relic bodies in this exact way. Freeze 'em, and then put them next to a hot boiler. Works great, if thats what you want to do with them. 8)

I still find FedEx to be better than UPS, though. UPS has busted more than one guitar sent to me, and lost shit that I've sent out. I avoid them at all costs if possible. :x :x

You're right, FedEx is a little better.
Sometimes when I get a package delivered from either of them, I just get the feeling that they really don't care how many pieces it gets to me in.

Quiet, they may start charging by each piece!
