The number of families who get a permit, and set off fireworks, in my town every year... always single digits. The number of families who set off fireworks before the law, 10,000+.

Smoking- Most of the restaurants and 99% of all businesses where smoke free BEFORE they even started talking about this law. No one FORCED non-smokers to go to smoking establishments. And COME ON, a bar is hardly the place one goes to improve there health. Give me a fucking break. Now the government tickets anyone smoking within a certain distance of the entrance or exit of any public building(private clubs and VFW halls included).

Anyone who thinks insurance companies are working with our health interests in mind, think again, its all about the bottom dollar. The more they can restrict our freedom to choose to take risks. The more money they make.

It amazes me how easily we sheep throw away our right to live our own lives.

i understand your freedom perspective completely. i dont wish to add to it because i dont know if politics are allowed.

freedom aside, did you ever sit on a stool at a diner when just as your breakfast is being served, the patron on your side finished his/hers and decides to light up?
smokers are the most inconsiderate humans in USA. all they care about is their fix. thankfully now the worst i'm exposed to is walking through the smokers gathered around the entrance to office buildings. some buildings force the smokers away from the entrance.
how many members in your band delay reahearsals for cig breaks? it's definitely counter-productive here.

smoke to yourself(in your car/home/yard). dont pollute me.
what are the pros to smoking?

My buddy who owns a bar and I share the same birthday (yesterday) so I went up and had a few drinks. Amazing that no one smoked in there; even more amazing they went out in the cold to light up. May not be as big a deal as I thought.
I think the bar owner gets fined $250 the first time he gets caught allowing anyone to smoke (even if someone sneaks into the bathroom to light up) They can't even have any ashtrays out or they get fined.

I remember leaving with a local car dealer to go look at a job we were doing for him. On the way out of the parking lot he spoted a salesman
"out back" cupping a cigarette. We pulled up to him and he exchanged small talk with him, i.e. " hows the weather?, how's the family?, how many cars have you sold to customers back here?" all while cupping his cigarette. He was real cool about it but the point was taken by the salesman.
Anyway when we left he had it down, been long enough ago I don't recall the numbers, but he told me how many minutes it takes to smoke a cigarette and multiply that by at least a pack and each salesman or staff member it equates to a pretty big #. All equating to lost $$. This guy employs over 250 people. That amounts to a big chunk. Sure the saleman loses a potential commission by "being out back smoking" but
the dealer loses too.
With that many people on your payroll spread out over a few dealerships it makes it kind of hard to police.

Same thing were I work, we have some smokers and they go outside to smoke, everybody else who doesnt smoke works. We are pretty lax where I work so nobody says anything.

I should have kept smoking with the amount of welding smoke and grinding dust I eat each day

I welded for 30 years and always kind of chuckled at the boxes the wire came in had pretty much the same warning as the cigarrettes.

the same law in france since the beginning of the year .....sometimes politicians do weird things , like in contrary to their supposed interests ( our justice minister is a women whom brother is a well known huge french dealer of weed !!!

) he has been arrested before sarkozy was elected and wow miracle after elections no one seems to talk about this scandal again !!! there are laws which sometimes are here to put a moral wall hiding the most disgusting things ...to give a moral aura to people which had obviously not during a lot of years... of course cigarettes are bad
but you know i think they would better concentrate themselves on the worst people's health problems which they continue to make benefits on ,like nuclear garbage which continue to pollute under floor water layers ... those laws are just there beacause the lobby of cigarettes has lost money power since they lost some justice issues , so they no longer can continue to corrupt politicians ...it think this is just as simple as that...!!

Wow.... read in the paper last night they are going to start pushing for a statewide no smoking ban here in Kansas. NO smoking in public places period. only in your house.

Did you take the time to choose a non-smoking restaurant, or do you just go to smoking restaurants, so you can bitch about the smokers, for daring to smoke, in a smoking restaurant?

no francis, i didn't. it would have been a waste of time. all restaurants here were smoking. i'm all done bitchin', cuz i dont smoke. looks like you got a lot more to do

on the topic of doctors and smoking....

Years ago an old girlfriends dad was in the hospital at the military base here. When he got out he said there an old advertising sign above the entrance to the cancer ward that said "Welcome to Marlboro Country"

Not sure if he made it up or not, but funny none the less.
