Much like when shaving ones face, one must NEVER SHAVE ONES NECK!!
It will get thin!!
It will get weak!!
It will need Viagra to maintain its stiffness!!
Truss rods everywhere will rebel against you!!
Your pickups will lose all interest in making good tone!!
The action will be so high, Boy Scouts will pitch tents under your strings!!
Your picture will be on the front page of The National Enquirer!!
Osama Bin Laden will be peeking thru your windows!!
Supermodels will shun you!!
Ugly chicks with bizzare, short little arms and hairy warts on their face will hit on you!!
Strange days will find you!!
Girls will talk about you behind your back!!
Dogs will howl!!
Cats will yowl!!
Cows wont moo!!
Clocks will stop!!
Flowers will wilt!!
Bushes will burn!!
The king will become a queen!!
Men will start showing an uncomfortable interest in your underwear selection!!
Foul odors will eminate from your body orifices!!
Saint Peter will laugh at your foolishness!!
Liberace will flip over in his grave!!
Rosie O'Donnell will visit you in a thong and high heels!!
Meteors will hit the Earth and send us hurtling toward the sun where we will all burn the fuck up!!
PRESIDENT BUSH WILL GET RE-ELECTED INDEFINITELY AND LIVE FOREVER!!
(If THAT doesnt stop you from shaving your neck, I dont know what will)
Fat necks=

Shaved necks=

You after shaving your neck, wishing for that wood back=

Your poor neck, after having been shaved=

The wood shavings on the floor, looking up at the neck they used to be a part of=

Your neck, after you've come to your senses, and decided NOT to shave it=

Fillmore, after spending way too long thinking up all this shit, KNOWING I could go on for a few more hours=

Oh, yeah... one last thing: DONT SHAVE YOUR NECK!!
Thank you.
Fillmore.

(its turning out to be one of those nights...)

So fil, are you sying he shouldn't shave the neck??
The neck on Page is VERY thin as compared to a '58 /'59 Standard. Story is Joe Walsh owned it first and had it shaved, eventually giving it (?) to Page. It does have a higher thin tone as does Page's sound. The Page Paul does sound much like Page tone. I can compare the Page neck to my '71 Custom and the Custom is still a little thicker. I have measurments here somewhere that I can post if I can find them.
I go back and forth about having the neck on my Oxblood shaved. That is a BIG neck but most luthiers I've talked to said the same as most of what fil mentioned. That fil does know his shit (and a mighty fine funny guy I might add!)

Don't do it Mike, shaving is for women's legs and armpits, not LP necks, especially on JB Oxblood, to me LP's and Strats are two completely different animals and it is fun going between the two types, thin necks are better on the longer scaled Strat type guitars.

i know, but i won't have the money to buy a 60' soon and i have to say that when i want to play much , i like to be comfortable with the guitar i play .
in another hand, it's not something i 'd love to do but it might be done well.
also the 60' has a thinner neck and some must sound nice, so i suppose it could make a good result.
i'm not sure i'll have the heart to do that but i've been thinking about that for a while for one of my 59' ri's that has the biggest neck of the two.
it's not that it's very deep but it feels wider in a way or bigger in the oval shape if you know what i mean.
the other one is deep but not that large on the edge of the fretboard.
i suppose page loved the result on his guitar as he payed only on this one for several years.
maybe i have to think about buying a 60' but you can't find one second hand in france (especialy for a reasonable price) and i'd like to try it before buying it.

B)Chief... bro... MIKE... For GODS sake, do NOT shave the neck on your Oxblood. Here's whatcha do: sell it to me, and I swear, when you come back to your senses with this neck shaving bullshit, Ill sell it back to you, ok?? Deal??

Imagine Marlon Brando speaking to you as Jor-El in Superman...
"Only the certain conviction... that what has been done, is right. You must have conviction. To do that which is right. Develop such conviction yourself... Chief".

Well, thats why we're suggesting an R0, cause you're talkin 2 kinds of crazy with all this neck saving language.NY Chief wrote:Because it's an Oxblood!!!!fillmore nyc wrote:Good point!!FrankieFeenixx wrote:why not just get an R0?And it ain't goin' no where!
And BECAUSE its an Oxblood, you are hereby FUCKIN' FORBIDDEN to ever even mention "neck shaving" anywhere within 1000 miles of ANY Oxblood LP, or Ill come there and take the fuckin' thing myself!! (You'll get it back, but not until you've come to your senses!!)

I must revert to Marlon Brando, different movie:
Chief... 'dis has been discussed. Da heads of all da families are in agreement on 'dis. We will never talk about 'dis... 'dis... "ding", 'dis disrespect ta da Oxblood. You have brought 'dis among us, among da family. You should have known better than to talk of such a ding... such a disrespect against da Oxblood. Nobody tol' you you had any permission to even TINK about shavin' any necks. YOU know you need approval from da Don for dat. Chief, you KNOW 'dis, an' you ALWAYS known it.
Remember 'dis, Chief... NEVER go against the family again. You do, and its 'dis... (hand in the shape of a gun). You dont wanna bring 'dis on your family, Chief. Dere will be no furrda warnings... you aint gonna discuss 'dis wit anyone, Chief. DATS da rules. DA RULES, CHIEF!! Udderwise, Don Metropoulous (

Now, lets just fugettaboutit. Camman... lets go ta Paisano's an' get some be-youtee-ful calamari an' a bottle a red. Dere's some "friends of ours" waitin' for you... ta eat, Chief... jus' ta eat...
