I got home just as a 1/2 inch hail storm broke at around 8:00. What weird sky black over head with the sun shinning trough below the clouds on the horizon very weird colors. Didn't see any rainbows the hail hit hard enough to hurt.

St August, I was driving to Richmond about that time tonight, and saw the rainbow horizon to horizon too, weird weather here today.
Was driving east, and the sun was so bright for a time back to the west.

GOD, I hate to ask this question (maybe), but I myself never having been to Michigan, Im just curious... do you guys call them "tornado's", or "ter-nay-der's", like they do in the southern mid west?

Its something I gotta know for some reason...

Seroiusly, its GOTTA be a mutha living with the threat of tornado's. Those bad-boys dont kid around.

LMAO!!! :D
We say "tore-nay-doe".
As far as living with the threat, you get used to it.
Like most people here I suppose, I hear the tornado "watch", and "warnings" on the news, and I don't even really pay any attention to it.
But if I hear that freight train coming, I'll dive down the basement stairs!

Michigan has relatively few tornado warnings compared to Oklahoma and Kansas. Over the last few years I just marvel at the terrific weather we have here in the SE corner of the state. This last winter was pretty snowy compared to the last few years and even with that we had nothing bad.

Dude... I dunno, but for a "city" kid like myself, this is unbelievable!! I know this will sound terribly nieve, but have you really actually seen one of those really big tornado's, like the ones they sometimes show on Discovery?? I think seeing something like that would make me shit my pants, much less being close enough to HEAR it!!

I guess its all relative, cause being around NYC, you see things that most people wouldnt dream of dealing with, yet its a daily occurance.

Tornado's though???? To me, scary like the electric chair.

   / :( :( :(

Haha, I'm cracking up here! :D
I can honestly say I've seen some horrific storms, but haven't actually had a "twister" come down my street.
I have seen a funnel cloud that went "tornado", but hasn't been near enough to hear the "freight-train".
Like you say, it really is relative.
Living in NYC would probably freak me out on a daily basis! lol
 Need to see the City though, never been there.

I guess (speaking from Kansas) you could campare them to a "drive by shooting) with a little more warning and damage.

In my younger days we would all pile into a car and go chase them all over Kansas, a good buddy was going to meteorology school at KU at the time so we had some good intel.
There was also lots of beer and "other things" involved.
Saw a lotta neet stuff tho...
