Right hand les paul to left?

Post by Loganp » Sat May 24, 2008 12:20 am

All of my guitars up until now have been fender Strats and Teles But I have a lead on a 1954 Les paul gold top it Needs some work but It would be a great project. But looking at the bridge it is angled towards the High E strink ( this being a right handed guitar ). Is it possible to flip this guitar For left handed play?

I have several Right handed Strats that I converted to Left, All I had to do was install a New Nut on the neck and re string/Intonate. Not sure it is the same on a Les paul

Sell me the guitar and buy a lefty... I am serious... the angled bridge of an LP will not permit you to intonate it.

I dont think you'll be able to intonate that guitar either. The wraptail is angled like that for RH play, and to come even remotely close to lefty intonation would take some ingenuity. MAYBE you could get close if you changed the bridge to a BadAss, angled the shit out of it with the screws that push on the mounting studs, and then try to get as close as possible with the saddles, but even then, its highly doubtful that you'll get it, and it'll look goofy as shit besides.
The only REAL way to do it would be to plug the stud holes, and re-drill 'em for a lefty angle, which would cause any luthier worth the title to have a stroke, doing that to a '54 LP.
:x :x :x :x

(BTW, you could always re-learn playing using the Albert King method of playing a RH guitar upside down, still strung right handed...)
