Slaving a Plexi Project
so lets see what we can figure out with slaving amps.
in the clip is a plexi spec loaded with a Marshall power brake - line out box is plugged in the second speaker jack. - from the line out box to a second plexi spec amp that is wired poweramp in ( goes straight from v1 into the Phase inverter )
here is a clip: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/page_so ... ID=6917395" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
i did use the ge10 in front of the loaded plexi spec amp. used my strat with super distortion that i swapped out the ceramic magnet for a A5 magnet.
sorry for sloppiness.
what do u hear? does it sound close? whats it missing? any suggestions on the setup or spec?

Now I know why the Super Distortion with an A5 is my fave pickup at the moment. Great playing

Re: Slaving a Plexi Project
I guess my ears arent as refined as most cause it sounds just like it to me. All the nuances are there to me. That killer growl sounds so alive. Its a perfect tone and probably feel. So you just goose it a tad by using v1a straight into P.I. ? cool very cool.

Re: Slaving a Plexi Project
basically wired a effects return into the amp. used v1a as the return side of the loop ( poweramp in )and then form there straight into the PI.

Re: Slaving a Plexi Project
those clips are great. I have been checking out the history of this message board and you are a giant. your efforts in modifications and tweaks are unmatched. I have to give you major props and respect.
this being said, what sound are you going for?
personally, I think you have the live tone spot-on. slaving amps was an effective way to route the guitar throughout the stadium without the frequency losses and sound bleed presented by a microphone. but I don't think slaving was done in the studio. there was no need. your tone is much more saturated than the album versions (not to say I'm doing much better but...). I can't really dissect it exactly but if you do an A/B I know it wouldn't come up exact. so to ask again, which sound do you want, then we can give better analysis based on the comparison.
either way, it is still an awesome tone.

first off i do believe that the first album had this setup going on ( slaved plexi ) and i don't think it was much different then his early live boots. the difference between the two, i think, is in the recording. produced and random Mic's live.
i do hear in this sound vh1 and it is what I'm going for. listen to the dance the night away riff - it sounds pretty spot on but then again i have just begun to tweak the power amp in and this whole setup.
the purpose of the thread is to get feedback ,and or any ideas or suggestions, which i appreciate as well as share the info i find along the way.
lets see how the sound improves to wards my goal as i try some stuff.

im wating for stan and whom ever to tear it apart - i depend on it.IloveMyMarshall wrote:Ok what did you do to the second amp? Explain, you bypassed what to what v1 to PI?? looking at an effects loop i took the return portion of it and wired it into v1a then straight from that tube into the in of the phase inverter - so you can look at this setup as if i had an amp with an effects loop and plugged the line out of a loaded plexi into its return.
oh and uh....i put the mistake in on purpose so you would know it wasn't the original recording of dance the night. NOT! .... and its been 30 years
