Re: Fav. Hendrix tone, which year ?
BOG for me and like any good tone fun to play.
His studio stuff is killer but to get all the ducks in a row, again, BOG. I guess knowing its a raw jam makes it that much more appealing.
Maybe this tone must of been too hot to play songs like Wind Cries Mary in the set list but, I feel would of given us yet another uncanny version for all to hear.
It's like when he closes his eyes and feels his way through unchartered time and space giving the listener a ride over the Rainbow Bridge.
To quote yet another famous player... "it's like falling down the stairs and landing on your feet"

I love the BOG Isabella studio version, same for Room Full of Mirrors and the multitracked studio Star Spangled Banner. Of course Smash Hits and Electric Ladyland, House Burnin' Down, ect.
Many different eras, the tone I love the best is the soaring leads, on the brink of and turning into glorious feedback!!

The Axis Bold as Love Leslie tone. I just love that, especially Little Wing and the fuzzy tone that closes out Bold as Love. Both the clean and distorted tones from that time are my fave.

This version, I don't know why it's so distorted: the one from Rainbow Bridge:

I like the earlier stuff, maybe because I like his early playing better.

thats what im talking about ohzoso. its that kind of stuff that i havnt heard before that reminds me about every month that hendrix is quite literally untouchable. all you can do is , and its 40 damned years later! i mean, the guy did more in three years than basically any guitarist before or since (and thats no knock on any of the other, many, great guitarists that have come and gone, either)

yep, untouchable is the correct description. Jimi is the master of live tone, he rules them all:byzantinechanter wrote:thats what im talking about ohzoso. its that kind of stuff that i havnt heard before that reminds me about every month that hendrix is quite literally untouchable. all you can do is , and its 40 damned years later! i mean, the guy did more in three years than basically any guitarist before or since (and thats no knock on any of the other, many, great guitarists that have come and gone, either)
