Original '59 vs. Reissue Les Paul comparison clips

I became aware of those clips from that thread but the videos weren't online anymore. So here they are again:

2 clips from Udo Pipper comparing a Gibson Les Paul Reissue vs. an original '59 using the same set up:
Reissue
Original '59

2 other clips, different player, different amp:
Reissue
Original '59

what pu's in the reissue ?

if they are actual gibson ones, that might not be the best to compare (at least for the classic 57 as i don't know teh burstbuckers 1 & 2) but still interesting

Great, you posted them again. :D
I digged out the article. The R9 has some 'slightly improved' Burstbuckers, the 'condom' around the trussrod, rio palisander fretboard, upgraded with 50's wiring, real Bumblebees and an original ABR-bridge from about 1960. Nickel strings 10 to 46.

The sound of the 59 is perfect, a R9 is a little fuzzy sometimes.
I took my glasses of and made a blind test with the second clips on youtube and it worked. 8)
I'd like to hear that R9 with some WCR's or Kloppmann's.

They have all the modern tech and simply can't do a pickup comparable to original PAfs.

The difference in clarity, in particoular way on chords, is very audible.

It should be only a matter of fret-type. I don't know if there's really a difference in tone. Differences between 59 and 60 are the type of neck.

The 58 a little more sustain due to the bigger neck profile. You can get it chambered too, which is called a 'Cloud 9' model then. The frets on the original 58's were smaller than on a 59, but as far as I know, the 58 and 59 RI's have the same fret size - pleked and pretty low from the beginnng...

Check these necks out to find out what suits best for your fingers, sound and - well - the amount of money you want to spend. 8)

From left to right: 58 > 59 > 60 profile.

those clips are interesting despite it's only BB's in the R9 !
i have listened to them again , the original ones seem to have more high end and less mids i would say.
i prefer the original ones.
they don't seem to sound that far from 60's gibson humbuckers from what i hear in the clip.

is the 59' ri neck the same profile since the mid/ late 90's ?

on your picture , the 60 doesn't seem much slimmer than the 59'

Actually, the neck shapes vary quite a bit on those models. However, as a rule the '58 is the fattest, then the '59 and then the '60. I've never played the '60 reissue, but I've heard others saying that it has a "flatter" profile than the '59.

There is a big price difference between the R8 and the R9/R0, since the R9/R0's have flame tops. The fretwire is the same on all models. I don't think one can say what the sound differences are between the models, because the sound varies so much between the individual guitars due to the wood differences.

If you want chambered, you can get any historic from R6-R0 as far as I know from a few dealers.
