Anytime I watch Albert King, I gotta keep reminding myself that he's playing lefty with a guitar strung righty. Amazing that he learned the instrument that way, and it just became part of his whole thing.

Doyl Brammall and Coco Montoyo both play like. i saw John Mayhall and he had Coco Montoyo playing with him and he ripped all the Clapton solos from the Beano album with his guitar strun upside down and backwards like Albert king

Thanks man I saw them in the mid 80's and I just stood there in shock as they wailed the entire beno album. OMG Coco Montoya's tone and playing was pure clapton but done upside down and backwards and Walter Trout's was using a blues breaker and it caught on fire. I could not believe what i was seeing or hearing

ahhhhh thank you god for music. The rounded top on the V is so sexy, never saw anything like that. I'd want one if they had that. Makes the V much more appealing for some reason.

Anybody wanna give me a crash course on albert's gear? V into a phase 90 into some strange solid state amp right? String gauge/tuning?

Albert used a variety of rigs through the years. the "phase 90" period...was in the 70's -- he played through an Acoustic 270 with 2x12 cab and a Roland JC-120 2x12 -- tunings were odd --I heard that he used open Em tuning alot.. There is not much that I know other than that. Heard that he liked the showman's back in the 60's (Freddie King used these as well) --

thats interesting I thought he always had a phase 90 going. There was always something a little strange to his tone and I couldnt place it for the longest time. He had that thing on so slow it was barely noticeable, just enough to make his touch sound weird.

His rig also reminds me that you've got to keep in mind the "if it sounds good, USE IT" mentality. I've got a quad of scumbacks on the way and boyyy If I dont like them I'll never trust hype in my life again about gear. You gotta trust your instincts and if it sounds good USE IT!

Here are some more pics to drool over...

steve wanted me to write a little more on the history of this guitar. So here goes -- The guitar was built by nashville luthier tom holmes and was commissioned by Billy Gibbons. There was also an explorer style guitar made out of the same cloth that says "Billy Gibbons" on the neck. The guitar was finished and presented to Albert in 1988 by Billy Gibbons in honor of Albert's 65th birthday. The last gig that Albert played with the guitar was at the Rhythm Cafe in Santa Ana, Ca. on 12-12-92 (He died nine days later)-- after the gig, Albert relinquished the guitar to his adopted cousin Lee King, who played it for a few years following Albert's death. It is now in the hands of a private collector in this area.

I had to sneak in my other family Members, the Kendrick is a 1990 2410 that is an early handmade by Gerald kendrick, I just sent him the chassis and he went thru it recapped filtering and a few other items replaced, now this amp just kills,real woody Bassman sound with extra pretube footswitchable boost, master vol, twin tube driven reverb module inside cabinet, sorry to get off thread, bluze
