Robin..Could this be Eddies lineout system in this pic?It looks like 3 amps are connected to there low inputs and then it all goes to a possible linrout with 3 volume controls.

That's what I said earlier about the slaving... I remember trying that... and I got the best result from that experiment... But I'm not saying that's the way...

Re: Ed's 1978 touring rig.
Robin did say the other power amps were daisy chained from the initial power amp Marshall, and that make sense. I think he said usually they used 3 total power amps up to 6 at times all driving single 4x12 cabs.
That picture looks like it is from the 1986 tour setup with the nice road cases for the heads.
Do you know when that picture was from?
Good to see you back Ralle, it has been a while!

To the best of my knowledge that picture is from the Japanese magazine Music Life, Aug. 1978 edition. I am surprised that article hasn't been translated yet.
The Japanese leg had 7 shows between June 17 and June 27. This was the half-way point for the tour. Boots are supposed to exist but I've never run across any. I'd like to compare it to the Nightmare boot. Call me crazy but I think his Nightmare rig is what he had in the studio with him for VH1.

I agree. The Nightmare boot (10-15-77) seems to have been recorded as they were recording the first album, or right after (?). I love that tone and although it is slightly different than VH I, it seems logical to assume (I know...) that it could be VH I minus the Landee/Templeman production.The Japanese leg had 7 shows between June 17 and June 27. That tone is very different than the tone he had in Japan IMHO. I've got the boots for 6/17, 6/19, 6/22, 6/24, and 6/27 and they all sound much more metallic than the Pasadena show. My guess would have been that this was a result of his trying Tony Iommi's setup after the first leg of their support tour. That's why I asked that question of Robin. Unfortunately he never answered it (that I saw).

or it could be VH I PLUS whatever it took to get a good stage sound that night - based on everything from the number of fat chicks in the front row to the number malt liquors ingested per canibus divided by dead batteries bad cables and dead fish stuffed in yer gig bag.wjamflan wrote:... I forgot the cardinal rule of this forum: Never express your opinions in terms of absolutes!rgalpin wrote:or it could be VH I PLUS whatever it took to get a good stage sound that night.

What I meant was that I hear more VH1 qualities on the Nightmare boot than I hear on any other - compared to the summed RWTD iso tracks and what I imagine his tone was minus production.
Unfortunately, the Japan track that was just posted (which can reasonably be correlated to the Japan pics) is not high enough quality for me to meaningfully form a comparative opinion.

just imagine yer in the studio and yer laying down tracks and they sound like VH I and it's 1978 er whatever and you are single handedly getting ready to launch a rock and roll revolution because they sound so good. you get to the gig. set up everything exactly the same as you did in the studio and yer thinking - "eh... needs a little more garlic!"sherman wrote:I forgot the cardinal rule of this forum: Never express your opinions in terms of absolutes!rgalpin wrote:or it could be VH I PLUS whatever it took to get a good stage sound that night.![]()

So the Die Laughing bootleg album(I have two vinyls of it) is the NightMare and not the Pasadena Civic farewell album?

Die Laughing is the Pasadena Civic Farewell gig. They never played there after 10-15-77. The 12-20 date was wrong. Check out http://www.vhboots.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for comparisons of the the titles. They're all the same show....
FWIW the one to get is: http://www.vhboots.com/nightmareb4halloween.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

But explain why is the low inputs connected on the picture? According to Robin it should be the high input.Good Guest wrote:Robin..Could this be Eddies lineout system in this pic?It looks like 3 amps are connected to there low inputs and then it all goes to a possible linrout with 3 volume controls.
