Re: Hendrixs amps time line?
Hendrix used to play, for a short time, with a Marshall and Sound City stack, but only in live shows. It said that he played with Sound City due to the influence of Pete Townshed and The Who. Here is a photo of that time...

Re: Hendrixs amps time line?
Where's that photo of Jimi onstage with a black flag amp again? The one where he has a JTM45/100 standing by the side of the stack. I think it's from November '67 or thereabouts.

In studio too? I thought that he only used the sound city for some live shows in England.Roe wrote:No, he used the sound city for the clean sounds on AxisGermanium_Boy wrote:Hendrix used to play, for a short time, with a Marshall and Sound City stack, but only in live shows. I think I dig the warm tone of the 2nd generation clips, but there is raw power and emotion in all those 3rd gen. clips you just cant get over. Those were jimi at his hugest live sounds.

Re: Hendrixs amps time line?
the clean sounds certainly do not sound like an el34 marshall but the dirty tones does. if you listen to wait until tomorrow, little wing and other clean tones it does not sound like kt66s marshall eitherTone-Freak wrote:Where did you hear that? Re: Hendrixs amps time line?
Being a "noob" to the more classic styles of Marshalls and not knowing nearly as much about the Jimi catalogues, what would be my best bet amp wise (what tubes KT66 or EL34? and R/S or Marstran Trans.?) for the follwing songs as they sound on best of/ experienced:
1. Voodoo Chile (SR) 2. Purple Haze 3. Wind Cries Mary 4. Red House 5. Along the Watch Tower
6. Foxey 7. Castles Made of Sand
Much appreciated, and good to find people who obsess about the detials and music as well.![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

1: el34 100w 1202-119/132, perhaps even dagnall 1.5". prob axis fuzz or an germanium fuzzface with an buffer (ala mayer classic-x) between wha and fuzz in order to get rid of oscillation
2-4, 6: jtm45/100 kt66, octavia, germanium fuzz face
5: 2" drake (1202-84/119/132), prob el34s and a 10000 series or a black flag. a cleanish fuzz, possibly an axis with vol high and fuzz low
7: el34 1202-119 black flag for dirty tone and sound city for clean tone.
good compromises:
- 45/100
- 10000 series (or even black flag)

Interesting. My info came from the book "setting the record straight" by the same authors Mcdermot and Kramer and is very detailed. I wonder what the difference in the two books are.Roe wrote:nice, but much more specific info is available in McDermott & Kramer's Ultimate HendrixTone-Freak wrote:

Awesome! So a Metro JTM-45 (other then power whats difference from 45/100 and 45?) with Marstran Trannies, Sozo Vintage Tone Caps, Carbon Comp, Rikken Ohm Resistors or other high end where available, SkipZ Power Scaling Mod.Roe wrote:No Radiospares for jimi.here's a guessTubeToneFreak wrote:Being a "noob" to the more classic styles of Marshalls and not knowing nearly as much about the Jimi catalogues, what would be my best bet amp wise (what tubes KT66 or EL34? and R/S or Marstran Trans.?) for the follwing songs as they sound on best of/ experienced:

What would be top 3 choices for each of the other type capacitors and +/- of each?
Who knows of a really good FX Loop mod/kit thats totally out of circuit when off with input/output adjustments?
Who knows of a good Channel and FX switching mod/kit?
Thanks Guys!
