Anyone play a Gibson for Hendrix tunes?

Anyone play a Gibson for Hendrix tunes?

I know that Jimi settled into a Strat for most all of his well-known material later in his short career, but how many of you use a Gibson when playing his covers?
I was jamming with an excellent drummer last week preparing for some festival and summer concert work and tried Purple Haze on my ES-335 through my Bassman. I gotta say, I think it rocked even more than on my son's Strat! I love his tunes played with the muscle of the humbuckers. Opinions? Experiences?

I used to use a '67 reissue flying V. I have to say, that through a real clean type amp, that the middle position (both hbers) and the neck position, sounded SUPER full and warm on alot of Hendrix comping.

I think that the Gibsons scale (24 3/4) isnt as 'open and twangy' as the Fender's 25 1/2 though. So I prefer having a hb'er in a strat.

My current build (USA Custom) is an exact blend of everything I like,

Hard Ash strat body

maple neck

bridge hber

neck single coil

Fender 6 hole tremelo

Basically a vintage styled top mounted strat, with a flatter radius and bigger frets (22 fret) along with a bridge hb'er.

I can get just about everything from Hendrix,EVH to Malmsteen on this.

Still, I just love that primitive growl and 'honk' one gets from a Gibson. Leslie West to Michael Schenker, the Gibson style rocks, just more comfortable on a Fender strat style.

Sounds similar to my son's American Deluxe HSS Strat...love it!

I use my Goldtop into my Metroized BBri for everything.
