Hi all, I have a JTM45/100 style amp with KT66s, I was wondering if 6L6/5881 is a drop in replacement or if not then what is necessary to convert the amp to take 6L6/5881?
Also do you experience a smoother middy sound with less breakup?
As a reference frame, I find that going from EL84 to 6V6 in an 18 watt will gives you this smoother, more open, buttery sound and less crunch, and this is what I am trying to shoot for by considering converting from KT66 to 6L6.

This should not be any problem but you might have to rescale the bias range just depending on what 6L6 tube you choose to use and what version of the KT66 is in the amp right now. This would only require a change of a resistor or two.

Well, as Roe hinted at, it CAN be a problem if the voltages are high. Especially if using 5881's, which can often go into meltdown with screens higher than 450V.
So I like purple, okay!!!!!!
