I went Fender crazy this week

Before you say anything, I do have a master plan.

Anyways, I've been helping a buddy find a Fender amp, so naturally I started looking too. In the process we found some pretty killer deals that we just had to jump on.

Soooo ... I picked up a '68 Bandmaster for $300, a '66 Bandmaster for $230, and a '66 Bassman for $350.

I'm going to test them all out side by side and see which one I like best and sell the rest for a profit on Ebay. After watching a lot of auctions, I think I can make about $400 in the deal.

... which makes room for the '64 Blonde bassman I just got!! :)

It's not REALLY a blonde, but it's pretty close. It's a transitional model with presence, white knobs, and black tolex. I only got a fair deal on this setup so I'll need to flip the other amps to make this one more "affordable".

BUT the most killer deal EVER was my buddies purchase. He jumped on a "buy it now" auction for a super clean '66 Bassman and matching cab ... for $300

Ooooh, sweet.......did your buddy get the short, side-by-side 2x12 with that '66, or an early tall 2x12 like mine? He paid way less than I did either way, and mine didn't have original speakers.

Really, there's still lots of good Fender deals out there. Too bad mid-sixties Marshalls don't some quite so cheap.

I have just as many fenders but I dont have any Fender cabs.

Its so wierd with Fender. You could pick up a head and cab combo for a few hundred bucks but a princeton combo amp from the same period is $1000+ and a deluxe reverb forget about it. Collector bs. It would probably cost a lot more to build a cheap combo yourself then to pickup an original head + cab

He got a side by side piggyback cab.

I only have one amp in my possession (the 68 bandmaster) so it feels weird to have all these others floating around in transit. I have no clue as to how original my blonde is, so I'm going to use the others for vintage parts if I have to.

So is there much of a difference between the bassman and bandmaster cabs? I know one is bigger, but does that translate to a different sound?

I think the piggyback amps are the best deal in vintage gear but the prices our going up. I got a 1965 bassman 2x12 w/ original cone jensen c12n's in great condion for $250 on ebay. The seller didn't know what he had, listed it as a 70's cab. Definitely didn't research the speaker codes. But hey, his loss is my gain :)

Tell me about it. Last week my buddy jumped on a "buy it now" for $300. It was a unmolested '65 bassman with matching cab. I wish I saw that one :(

Sorry the pic didn't just show up, but is a download. Bummer! Very cool about landing those c12n's I love those speakers. I have them in my black face twin. I'm sure the speakers are are worth the that much without the cab. I'm glad to see that you guys like fenders too. Not to brag, but , I also have a mint 67 blackface princton reverb, a blackface twin and a 67 blackface super reverb and a silverface vibrochamp. They are soo cool. I never play the deluxe and there's no way its going out of the house for a gig, so I've been debating selling it to go for one of Georges 12000 series. It would be painful but if his 12 series really has the Van Halen magic, like szabados says, then I want it.
