Wanting to build a "influenced 45/100"
Hello guys. Some of you have built some amazing replicas, but I don't have the wherewithal or patience to build a replica. I want to build one that follows the circuit but am concerned about modern kt66's handling the high plate voltages. Any of you use a pair of KT88's instead of the quad of kt66's? What did it do to the tone? Will the kt88's still sag the power supply like the kt66's do?
Your thoughts and advice would be greatly appreciated...

Re: Wanting to build a "influenced 45/100"
The M****n 1202-43 has a B+ option as low as 460 volts and the Marstran 1202-43 has a lower B+ option of 490 volts. Pretty sure the Gold Lions will handle this, you might want to do a search on them to find out.
BTW, I've been beating the crap out of a pair of cheaper Shugang KT66s in my JTM45 at 440 volts for about a year now without a problem.

Re: Wanting to build a "influenced 45/100"
(from memory), the real deal JTM45/100s run around 550v on the plates - I'd be wary of running current production KT66s at that voltage and expect them to be reliable. KT88s or 6550s all the way in this application.
OR, run those current production KT66s around 450v and they'll be happy as a pig in shit.

Here is some progress. Not period "Accurate" in the build, but definitely in the values. Hope to finish this weekend...

Nice tidy work, what kind of circuit did you end up with? - is it a hotrod?

Just a bone stock 1959 circuit. The only deviation is a 100K PEC Bias pot, and a different layout for the caps and diodes.
Here are the values I used:
B1, 2-80uf's in series for 40uf total
B2, 2-30uf's in series for 15uf total
B3, 1-30uf
B4, 1- 22uf

Very good !!!! bridge humbucker position ? i didn't try a humbucker with mine yet, 100 w version.
Really impressed by your Zappa clip, wow you can play ! what made you progress in this direction ? just hearing and try to reproduce it ? cause i'm not familiar with these patterns not so pentatonic i guess ^^ but a lot interesting.

Thanks for your comments! I have always listened to all kinds of music. Just trying to improve a grain of sand at a time...

Re: Wanting to build a "influenced 45/100"
yes i've heard several clips several times, really good, and tone !!
How do you improve a grain of sand ?
i mean, i'd look for some new ways to evolve in my playing. usualy i hear things, i try to play them a bit, but i don't learn things entirely. i've saved several particular hendrix, jeff beck, stones ......... songs, tabs, aside for my own school, for some interesting tricks and logics, technics, emotions .. things that i can't put out yet.
i never find the time to work on it. How did you work your sand grains ? i'm curious.

Just simple repetition. I hear something and I attempt to learn it and then add my own twist to it...
