Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
Well, I bought the EVH 5150 III 50 watt and the 1x12 cab. It has the Anniversary speaker in the cab.
It sounds kick ass. But, that could just be the newness of it all.
My quest for American Made speakers is just beginning !!!

Those anniversarys were good. They were before the Heritages came out. Not as good as my 72 transitionals, bit still very good IMO.

Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
My goal is to reload an old 1990 Peavey Sheffield 4x12 cab with fairly low wattage American Made speakers and use them with the 5150 III 50 watt amp. I'm thinking 25 or 30 watt speakers in the 4x12 which will then be pushed by the 50 watt 5150 III.
Being in my mid-forties---I no longer play in clubs, bars or parties. I just rock out in my house. So I am not too concerned about blowing speakers anymore. It is very rare that I get any of my amps above 3 1/2 or 4. Most of the time I stay at 2 or below.
The old Sheffield cab will be the sacrificial lamb for this project.
Any input would be greatly appreciated !!!

Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
The Anniversary speakers are true 30 watt G12H spec to some degree. I have used them in several Crate Vintage Club amps as a replacement speaker with great results.

Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
how can he annivesery be same specs as originals when all the paper/trees and glue are gone 'outlawed? reissues sound quite different than originals, and scums eve more different....you can still get an origianl 04 cone for $400. that is how to get the original tone if thats what your after. all you need is one to put a mic on. fill the rest of teh cab with wgs green clones for $50 a pop

Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
The G12 70th is supposedly made to the same spec as the G12H-30, only difference is the 70th is made in China and the Heritage is made in England.
I compared the 70th to a greenback in a 1x12 combo and preferred the 70th. As good as the 25w greenbacks sound, especially in the mids, the 30w speaker just sounded better to my ears once both the tubes and speaker starts distorting at higher volumes. Bottom end doesn't fall apart and the top end is smoother.

Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
the anniv is a good speaker, but perhaps closer to a blackback than a greenback. its a little bright sounding and needs breakin

Re: G12H 70th Anniversary
I'm not sure this is the only difference. I have both and, while they sound very similar, the Heritage is a tad smoother/woodier/less ear fatiguing. Having said that, the chinese G12H-30 70th Anniversary is great
