The red/maple board strat was a special order model. I think it was a '64. At that time a maple neck was a special order. It would of had a 'round lam' maple vaneer cap, same as the rose wood board models. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I thought it was candy red.

Re: Leo's Favorite color...
aha... O.K. upon further review I see the top pic does favor a CA Red . On the other hand, the Monterey's background is FR and
in the vid I posted I would suspect that Black & White hue favors a brighter red than if it were a CA Red. I can easily be waaay off on this; he's wearing the same jack as in the first pic.
The link was at the very top. Here it is again on YT:

Nice little Dweezil vid on that Miami Pop Festival restore

That red/maple Strat was used in the Stockholm May 67 TV session, the one with Wind Cries Mary and Purple Haze....and a killer tone to boot! Fender red colors are gorgeous, every one of them. My favourite is Dakota Red though. I have a November 64 Strat neck that I just ordered a MJT Dakota Red body for.

Re: Leo's Favorite color...
I remember Dakota Red ! Great color ! I like those Sherwood Green's, too.
Nothing like the colors today and not that it matters...
...Kinda notice the same color trends in vintage to modern cars.
Surprises me sometimes; on the expressway I see a modern car with a vintage color and say things like - hmm, that don't look right. Like Arctic White on a Stratocaster where's the puke smillie
umm... More than half of my guitars are black... I dunno ? Eventually, yet another one in time, as I will be seeking a Les Paul Custom candidate with '69 appointment's; waffle back tuners, witch hat knobs; and not to mention the size of the belly cut. It would be nice to do find it in Black, but a dark Wine Red w/gold hardware wouldn't be bad at all.
Either or, both will be sportin' T-Tops ! Just hope I find one under 9.5 lbs. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Mine has cream trim and gold speed knobs (looks like the "Cause we've ended.." Oxblood) if that's ok with you, JJ...JimiJames wrote:...I will be seeking a Les Paul Custom candidate with '69 appointment's; waffle back tuners, witch hat knobs; and not to mention the size of the belly cut. Re: Leo's Favorite color...
i realise that i have only black and white guitars ^^ ( and wood ) it seems unconscious lol.
??? and to make things perfectly coherent, i have a grey - silver one , ha ha
i'd really dream to have one jeff beck strat body , or deluxe body, but refinished in this kind of sea foam green ( not surf green, it's different ) , in cellulosic or why not poly. same as on this triumph i saw in dinard, west of France, Britain.
