"NEW" PAF'S????

Post by NY Chief » Mon Aug 25, 2014 12:03 pm

I’ve been after a sunburst ES355 like an old hero Mark Hitt of Rat Race Choir played. I finally found one I could squeeze into (out of?) the budget. It’s a lightly played '95 Custom Shop in great shape. Poking around in it I pulled the pickups and when I flipped them over, lo and behold “PATENT APPLIED FOR” labels!?!?!?!!? What is Gibson up to with this? They obviously aren’t real vintage PAF’s. Anybody see this before?

Mike, they're reissue PAF pickups, either Classic 57 or BurstBucker models. NOT vintage, sorry.

They put "Patent Applied For" stickers on them similar to the originals, but both the stickers and tone they produce aren't quite right.

Looks like Mr Jimmy is right on. Gibby's putting them on '57 Classics and Burst Buckers from what I can find out.

Hey, Jimmy wanna trade my PAF's for the ones you're putting in your LP build? 8)

LOL, I'll think about trading mine, but my wife (you konw, that women who banned you from coming over on Sundays?) isn't going to trade hers.

BTW, I got an update on that today (cough, hack...), and I should have it in two weeks, well in time for the LA Amp Show.

I'm going to assume you're coming to the show, if nothing else but to play that guitar...right? :palm:

Count on it, Jimmy!!! See ya Sunday at your place... .

I hope George brings his LP with the Throbak MT's. He's really sold on them. It would be great to A/B with your originals.
