4550 Combo Using Built-In 1x12 (in-the-room clip)

Post by Sean_McFly » Fri May 20, 2016 12:40 am

You've all now heard what the amp sounds all mic'ed up through a 4x12, so I figured I'd share with you a cool clip I did with my iPhone6 of the 4550 through the built-in combo speaker (a 16ohm Scumback H75 100 watter) doing some very convincing live 78' era Ed tones. This thing sounds like a fat 4x12 or 2x12 even though it's a semi-open back 1x12 combo. Pedals in front of the amp are my MXR Carbon Copy and my MXR EVH Flanger (during Ain't Talkin Bout Love, but the batteries were going so it doesn't really show up well there). Enjoy! :toast:  :shred:

Sounds really nice Sean...I don't know if it is exactly a live '78 era tone that I hear, but I like what is going on there. It has it's own thing happening and that thing is really good!

Ron
Ron, we passed all the inspections two weeks ago. However since they haven't uploaded the final report to the computer I can't get a new building permit for the storage shed and electrical I have to replace.

I swear, these county employees act like they're doing you a favor to take your money for a permit and inspection...and they only work four days a week to act all entitled. And the zoning people are only around on Mon-Tue from 8:30 am - 11 am, period. No other days in the office unless you drive 22 miles downtown in LA traffic.

Argh!

I've been working 6-7 day weeks for so long that just doesn't even compute for me.

However, there are picture updates....sad ones, but here they are.

Back when the demo room ruled...

...to the sad reality of a post zoning enforcement correction initiated by Home Depot after I caught them committing fraud on my re-roof project.

Needless to say, I am pretty bummed about it. But it is what it is.

Clip sounds great mate

Much prefer Soundcloud clips than endless narcissistic youtube posts of some guy bent over a guitar in his bedroom...

PS,, nice collection of gear Jim

I guess he doesn't like seeing people play online in YouTube clips. He prefers to hear an audio clip on Soundcloud.

I make video clips with my iPhone because I usually get feedback from people thinking I'm not actually playing on audio clips that I've posted. Then some people just want to see my fingers since I'm usually demoing a certain lick. Also, the iPhone is really easy to use and I don't have much studio equipment.

I think both Soundcloud/audio only clips and video/YouTube clips have their own place and their own inherent ego display. I really try to get a point across about tone or how I think something might be more correctly played technically.

iPhone to YT is SO easy. And I don't think there is anything narcissistic about those, unless it is obviously so.

I like hearing the amp in the room with the person talking as a volume/tone reference.

He's talking about the guy with the Major who posts clips nonstop to fish for compliments. He did a one wire mod to his amp and thinks it's gods gift to tone.

Keep rocking on, Sean!

Bingo.

Yt's are great and serve a purpose. Garbeaj's demo YT's are great and I'm still struggling to get the positioning right  Strat78 stuff too and my old bud Ralle's are classics imo. In fact it's all about moderation. After all this is an amp building forum with an obsessive EVH section not a 'Fan-boy' site. Just my 2 cents
