Fuck man, 8's.. ha ha. Those were the day's. Ever try stretching strings quite a bit? Takes a little stress off the strings and still maintains the fat ass tone.

I just switched backto 9's. I was using 10's for many years. I agree though, the tone is much better the heavier you go. I switched back because I was just looking for a spankier tone, and more consistancy in my bends. Whenever I played a guitar with 9's, I sounded better and didn't have to fight the guitar. Moving back to 9's gives me a spankier sound, much sweeter bends, and no more fighting.

DR Pure Blues 11's are the best strings I've ever used. My G&L Commanche has much bigger frets than my Les Paul. Bending strings on that guitar is easy!!!!!!!

Ya gotta remember too that the scale length has alot to do with how easy it is to bend the strings. 10's on a Strat feel like 11's on a Les Paul.
I think it is more important to pick a string gauge you feel comfortable with than one that sounds slightly better.

I loved my 11's while it lasted, but seriously, arthritis runs in my mom's family (age makes no difference) and sometimes it's all I can do to get my fingers to warm up and work. 11's were just aggravating the issue, so I had to back down to 10's. Better than irritating my joints to where I can't play, I'd go nuts if it wasn't for the guitar.
And funny you should mention, I dug out the movie "Roadhouse" a few weeks ago just to hear some Jeff Healey geetar-lovin'. 8) 8)

I usually answer to the topics in the off topic area, however right when I saw SRV in the title I backed off. Not that I don't like SRV, don't get me wrong. However, back when I was a young budding guitarist, my dad crammed SRV down my throat literally so after all that you kinda get tired of it all.

However, I do have to say Jeff Healey is ONE BADASS MUTHAFUCKA! Not only cause he plays blues, but he plays hard rock and the guy is blind!!! HOLY SHIT that's fuckin' talent!

My mom blasts "Enigma" and "Ace of Base" on the living room stereo. That is so annoying waking up on a Sunday morning. Sometimes i question her taste...

Good Lord man, I feel for you! :D

Anyhoo, I recall an article about Healey from around the time of his See The Light LP, where he was using I believe a JCM800. I remember for sure he was using an all Boss pedal board (he had several - a couple of distortions, flanger, delay, EQ, chorus, and compressor) and a SQUIER, yes you heard me right, a Squier Strat with EMG pickups. I don't remember the exact model of EMG's or if they were active, but they were single coil sized and they were red. This would have been around '88-' 89 timeframe. The guitar was black, and it may be the one he is using in "Roadhouse" , but its been too long since I've seen it to remember.

Jeff Healey has a club in Toronto www.jeffhealeys.com

I hope to get over there sometime in the near future. He plays there himself pretty often.
