Oh yeah, that's a nice one. It happened to me too a few years ago. I would never have guessed that a bike tyre could make that kind of noise. I got completely death for about a minute, and then a ringing sound slowly entered my head along with a scraping "snowy" sound. I was scared to death, but after a day or two my hearing was restored.
Its also not the loudness but the quickness. There's some kind of flap that covers your ear drum or the cochlea or something when the noise level gets loud or if you know your about to hear a loud noise but when a huge loud sound comes completely without warning it can do way more damage. Like a fog horn. Theyre loud but you can take it but if someone sneaks up behind you your ears will be ringing for a long time not to mention a gun shot. You could loose your hearinf for a time.
I can totally relate to the gunshot!
Deer hunting in the UP in '93.
We got skunked, and had some water jugs left over we decided to shoot after we packed up camp to see the massive "explosion" you get when shot with a high powered rifle with soft point bullets.
Well, it was my turn, and of course I was standing in front of my two hunting buddies, and apparently I was taking too long aiming, and my brother in law fired from just behind me off to my left.
I was soooooo fucking pissed off, couldn't believe the idiot would do such a stupid thing, my left ear was ringing for a week I shit you not. :?
