so i thought i nailed the AC/DC tone but i never well i must have been close but being 1 speaker and a 15 the compression is different when i had a shot of a 4x12 i used the same settings but i am getting less vol because i don't have my treble and mid high if i lower my vols and raise them and the bass it will even out i think i am using more power than pre.
I have no idea which channel is the bright 1 on my amp so it is just pot luck just now sorry, if i am speaking crap let me know.
That was my first ROCK'N'ROLL moment breakin my speaker
i enjoyed it.
so i need to use less volume and put the treble and mid higher. let me tell ya i hit the guitar strings like a son of a bitch i mean i am so hard they are rattling and i ain't snapped a string yet ( touch wood) wit my strummin technique.
this is probably BS but let me know since i started usin a tube amp it made me a better player because i am more self conscious of my playing and god my guitar tone is a lot better.
I don't have a proper 4x12 so that is also a problem well i don't have the guts to ask the people who gave me the amp for the cab i really think i should but by then i will have a total DIY resto work to do.
please tell me what amp settings you recommend for my sb for AC/DC i had them before but i lost them.
once i get my cab made i will soon be rockin

Try my amp settings or Paul's (see a few posts back). Plus, you NEED a 4x12 cab. If I were you I'd work up the guts and ask for the cab from the people you got the amp from.

It has to be an enamel-wound p/up. Some of the fender CS relic strats are pretty close. That is, the Transition/Post-CBS reproductions. I'm not a huge fan of fender p/ups so I'm not sure exactly which model is in those ones.
If Jimi really is your thing, try the fralin woodstck '69 set. They're enamel with a left handed magnet stagger which does indeed create a "modulated" effect when playing those Jimi-like major triads on the wound strings, its the low B pole piece under the A string, think Little Wing.
If I was gonna buy a set I would think about getting them slightly underwound ESPECIALLY the bridge. The set I tried, the bridge measured at 7.9k??? Far too hot. Enamel is a finer wire than formvar so when a manufacturer says "as hot as possible with this wire", and it's enamel it's gonna be HOT! Glassy and Chimy are definitely words I'd use to describe them though.

Finally !
A Strat thread on the Metro forum, and it does´nt even have it´s own heading, hiding in a thread that started out as something completely different... Maybe we should start a strat-head thread, and demand our own category. The LP bias is pretty heavy here, and there must be somebody who plays Strats through Marshalls out there. I´ve heard it´s a pretty cool sound !

got the courage and asked for the 4x12 but here is the meeeeggggaaaa sad part lets just say it had an accident with some flames and was completely destroyed and i am reallly reallly gutted because old daddums got offered the cab but he never took it because of lack of room in the house but the house is full of shite i mean other gear that didn't really work which i am still restoring.
so what i am going to do is build a 78 replica 4x12 once i get my red beast done first.
so if any1 has any pictures of a 78 cab i would like to see it and i would also like the dimensions for it unfortunately i am loading the 78 cab with bass guitar speakers might see if ted weber does G12H bass cone replicas because they would not go a miss as this amp is going to be used for bass as well.

I may be ina very Les Paul place right now but I always flip-flop between my Strats and my Gibsons pretty regularly.MacGaden wrote:Finally !

You want great Strat pickups? Look no further than late-70's to early 80's TOKAI........

Flames,
Goes to show how opinions can differ. I own two 1980 Tokai Springy Sounds and absolutely HATE the pickups that were in them. I couldn't wait to replace the pups, which is the reason I have Van Zandts in them now. I gave one set away and still have the other. I'd be happy to sell them to you if you're interested, Flames! They're the grey-bottomed 'F' kind. I'm open to offers!
BTW Mike what got you biasing all your output tubes at 30 mA? Just interested before I install the KT66's, Paul
Paul,
This is something me and my amp doc worked out. He biases the tubes and I decide by ear what sounds best. Turns out we both like end tubes to be biased at 30 mA, no matter what kind. We biased a quad of Svetlana EL34's, Svetlana 6550's, GT KT66HP's and GE 6CA7's, and all of them sounded best at 30 mA, at least to my ears. My amp doc told me back in the day all Marshalls he worked on had the tubes biased at 30 mA. That's how they came from the factory. Turns out I think they were right in doing so.

I've only got one, and it's a grey-bottomed "E". It's so damn sweet, sparkly and chimey that it's very difficult to match any other pickups to it. Maybe it's earlier than I thought, there's not much info out there about them. Maybe I wouldn't like the "F" series either -- and maybe you'd like the "E" series a lot better.bluefuzzguitar wrote:Flames,

Thanks Mike, I'll let you know how they work out, I've put in some NOS preamp valves as well, Brimar, tungsram & telefunken. Got them from Terry/ Tubetramp so looking forward to hearing them too.
Hey flames, Those really early tokais are pretty darn good. The giutar store I teach at have got a GORGEOUS purple sparkle/rosewood neck very early tokai but don't want to sell it. although I'm constantly asking them, the owner gigs it. Sounds great and plays even better, as good as just about any strat I've tried. Very hendrix.

I'm a Tokai MANIAC! I own two 1980 Springy Sound strats (copies of '59 strat w/ maple neck) and a 1981 Love Rock Gold Top (copy of the '57 LP GT). Before that my #1 strat was a custom shop Fender '57 Vintage Reissue. The Tokais blow the Fender out of the water! Same with the LP. I owned a '72 Gibson LP Custom at some point. The Tokai eats the Gibson for breakfast! I'm not ever going back to Fender or Gibson!
