I think the OT swap made the biggest change in sound in that thread. The hardness and brittleness went away, and the amp sounded much more responsive. That

Rockstah:

How does one tell if a mustard is a real NOS / the real deal?
Are there any well known trusted overseas NOS Mustard Ebay Sellers that are trusted by the Metroamp community?
Examples:

Rockstah:

Mickey has the .0022 and the .68 in NOS. I just ordered those from him. I am now looking for the .1's.

Caps on top:

All 5 are 50+50 500 volt.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rockstah we have a problem:

Cranked her up and getting some weird noises mainly when using the Presence and Treble above 8 and a pulsing sound when Vol1 and Vol2 Jumped and Dimed. Matching Pic for these mp3's is the first one on the Mod1 page:

Direct Link to Mp3's where you can hear the problem:

Do the Sozo Mustards have polarity and I have the .1's in the wrong direction?

ok so run down what u have done so far. would u say have gotten some gain from what you have done this far?

good ole osolation happening right there.

when u have all the knobs dimed how high u can u bring the volume before it squeels? 7? 8?

Completed so far:
1. Replaced the OEM ERD .68uf 250v V2a Cathode Cap with a BC 330u 25 volt. http://store.metroamp.com/product_info. ... cts_id=289

2. Replaced the 2 OEM ERD .022uf 630v Output Coupling Caps (Phase Inverter) with Sozo "Mustard Type" .1uf 400v caps.
http://store.metroamp.com/product_info. ... cts_id=370

3. Removed the OEM 4720QK cap from Vol1 Pot. Nothing was put back in it's place.

Definitely have more gain! The mp3 http://www.vandelynkross.com/audio/Mod1 ... rebOn8.mp3 sounds better to me than the Stock Original CH1 All Dimed MP3 http://www.vandelynkross.com/audio/HWLe ... yDimed.mp3
Has more balls!!!! :D

So you are saying the osolation and squealing is normal when everything is dimed due to the change in gain in the circuit? So I did not make a mistake with the direction installed on the .1uf caps? Are mustard caps of this type non-polarity?

I will test it again tomorrow and get back to you on
when u have all the knobs dimed how high u can u bring the volume before it squeels? 7? 8?
In the pursuit of NOS Mustard Caps, the ERD OEM cap on the Presence pot is .1u. Should I replace it with a NOS .1u or .68u?

Also, the v1a cathode cap OEM value is 220u 10v. Based on your "Checklist to EVH", should I replace this with a BC 330u 25v?

Thanks!

with the added gain its normal the way the amp is now. also im saying that it can be fixed. but first tell me with everything dimed how far can u bring the volume up before she squeels?

for the next mod u will need.

one: 16u+16U - http://store.metroamp.com/product_info. ... cts_id=240

three: 32u+32u - http://store.metroamp.com/product_info. ... cts_id=244

Cool! I will get those can caps ordered.

What about:
In my quest of replacing OEM caps with NOS Mustards, the ERD OEM cap on the Presence pot is .1u. Should I replace it with a NOS .1u or .68u?

And

The v1a cathode cap OEM value is 220u 10v. Based on your "Checklist to EVH", should I replace this with a BC 330u 25v? I have 1 more of those left over from my previous purchase from George.

Thanks!

Hey Rockstah! Sorry I could not do this earlier today. Was gone all day.

Presence, Bass, Mid, Treble all on 10. Guitar plugged into Vol 1 only. Guitar volume pot maxed. I can bring Vol 1 up to about 9 and then she begins squealing. As I reach the half way point between 9 and 10 it pops and then really starts squealing loudly. If I plug the guitar into Vol 2 only, it does not squeal at all with everything dimed.

the chassis is in the headbox while u are doing this test or is out laying on abench?
is there alum flashing inside the head box or just a wood box?
figured around 9 or so on the bright channel.
