Worst concert experience

Post by zaphod777 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 2:17 pm

I just had to share this story, unlikely that 99.9% have ever heard it.
The worst/most unforgetable concert experience I ever had.

1982-83 I payed 10.50 to see Mountain and the newly reformed Aerosmith.
Mountain rocked.
Aerosmith lasted six songs.
The first song(train kepta rollin), steven dropped his harmonica down his spandex, twice. he sang the song standing next to the speakers while a roadie(lying on his stomache) undid the thousand bandanna's from his leg to retrieve the harmonica, before the somg was over, he did it again.

He half assed the second song, the next two he dissapeared and perry did a couple tunes one hendrix and some other cover.

Then steven comes out, hair all wet, walks up to the mike, takes a big inhail through his nose into the mike and says, "thats better"

Through the first two songs and the last two, he's been purposely backing in to Tom Hamilton(bass player) with his mike stand. Odviously there's something happening between them.
He's singing wrong lyrics and, well, completely wasted.
Finally Tom snaps and starts Full-On beating steven with the headstock of his bass, easily dominated the fight, all on stage, in front of nearly 10,000 people, Brad whitford, and two roadies have to come out and pull hamilton off the top of tyler, who is now on his back, Getting full on pummeled by Hamilton, while perry and the drummer keep playing.
They start the sixth and last song and 60 second in, tyler literally stumbles and good 20 feet straight off the front of the stage, into the crowd,

The band plays on for a few more seconds, then walks off in disgust.
we can see them carrying tyler off through the back.
2 minutes later the lights come up, where told the concert is over and people go nuts, bikers tearing the seats from there mounting, and general GNR level, chaos.
I get outside and there's a large group of people shaking aerosmiths(long gone) bus back and forth.

The next day, mtv news anounces, " Aerosmith cancels concert in Springfield Illinois due to a slight illness"

A week later we where offered a copy of aerosmith's greatest hits for our ticket stub(at that time well established in the 1.00 bin at any record store) I think less than 300 people went to claim there album.
They owed us a free concert, not an album we all likely already owned.

Myself and ten thousand others looked forward to that show for months,
I never forgave Aerosmith, the most dissapointing, insulting concert experience Ive ever witnessed. Havent listened to them since.

Even if I had not had this experience, the power pop theve been spewing out since they reformed, interests me in no way shape or form.

Funny how they managed to hush the whole thing.
Also funny how I remember more details from this concert, than any other.

Man, thats fucked. Tyler had alot of range and was very smart and dynamic in many ways, he can still out sing most all in his age group, cept maybe Paul Stanley. Too bad that he spent his fertile 20's fucked up all the time.

That's way more FUBAR'ed then mine. I remember scoring Zep tickets and bragging to all my friends how I was going to see Zeppelin for weeks. I get to the concert and Page had a broken index finger. I was front row for THE most disappointing show ever.
Page had this smirk on his face the whole time like he was thinking "SUCKERS". Not to mention sounding like total ass.
Definitely put a wet blanket on my opinon of Page.

Which tour was that, Mike? Man, I'll say Page has probably had the most significant influence on my playing but a little piece of me dies every time I hear a soundboard bootleg...it's like "How could anyone get away with that slop?"I guess it helps if the majority of the crowd is stoned and the acoustics are bad.

For me, I think the worst show I've been to was Pink Floyd in '88 or so. I dig them but the idea of seeing them live was more my friends' idea than mine. I just remember being at the very top of the Orange Bowl in South Florida, it's raining, and I'm listening to the slapback from the PA and looking at the ants on the stage listening to "black...black...black...and blue...blue...blue" with guys tripping balls all over the place.

A couple of killer shows? Brian Setzer Orchestra at Irving Plaza and Bad Brains in Orlando.

Saw Don Dokken in 90 or 91 I believe. He had leringitus and sounded like Brian Johnson (not a bad thing, but is for a "Rangey" singer like Don) John Norum was great as was the other guy, Billy was his name I believe. Accept bassist and King Diamonds drummer. It was histerical listening to Don completely fail vocally with his foot up on the monitor, but I give him props for not cancelling, he said " I got laringitus, but I'm gonna sing anyway, cause I wouldnt cancel the show on ya Charlotte". Something like that.

I want to say 1978 but it could have been a year before or after. That's right about the time I discovered mind altering substances  .

Actually this year Aerosmith toured with Motley Crue. The Crue was really good but Aerosmith sucked ass. Steven was yelling to the side of the stage half the set with his finger pointing to his ear. Joe Perry's tone was shrill and his ego needs a whole seperate stage. Brad Whitford looked 80, dressed in worn jeans and an old baseball cap just going through the motions, played sloppy, and didn't move a step. Tom Hamilton was out with Cancer surgery so they had a fill in bass player tucked in the back corner of the stage. Set list sucked. Sound sucked. Pathetic really.

A friend who saw them around the same time was equally dissapointed.

I saw both page/plant tours, after live aid I wasnt expecting much. I have to admit, They where DAMN good, both tours. Not the sloppy, rusty, 1/2Zeppelin I was expecting.
