We got a whole mess of Italian food for the finale. I must say I was highly disappointed witht the "end", it was most ungratuitous. We waited through all the last episodes for some great revelation & it just never came. I think it could have cut off like that at any point in the series & been pretty much equally empty. Just my take.

Supposed literary genius? Bullshit to me. And borrrrring (except for the ever lovable Paulie and Phil "loosing his head".)

I thought the cable went out when it faded to black  For a second I thought I missed the end, turns out, that's how it was supposed to happen. Nice to see Phil gone though. I agree w/45auto in the sense that it's a hard show to end. Possibilities I thought of are, Tony gets killed, Tony gets arrested, or Tony's simply paranoid about the people looking up at him in the diner.

I thought I missed something, then the credits rolled. I am disappointed. The last 3 minutes were keeping me on the edge of my seat. I thought this was gonna be it and then....... nothing.

BOO HISS!

I watched the show from the very first airing of the first episode waaaay back. The shows entire focus and spirit changed years ago. I wasnt expecting much and I was still disappointed. One thing though. I was dead sure those arab guys from the bing that Tony talked to the fed's about were gonna do something big. I was wrong. Anyway. The Leatardo hit was the best hit of the whole show. Right in the head in front of his family then they all watch as the car pops his head like a grape. Priceless, gratuitous violence.

David Chase probably chose to end the series that way b/c it was contrary to everyone's expectations of a big finale. Definitely fooled me.

Watched it again tonight. Without the suspense of waiting for the next hit I was able to take in more. There was a lot of funny shit. Paulie an the cat was great, and the Virgin Mother apparition at the Bing? We could sell Holy Water by the gallon jug, T says!

My take is that Tony got whacked. You never saw Meadow come through the door only heard the bell. Was it her? And, there was more than one reference in the series about what is like to get whacked. "You never see it comin' It just goes black..."

A few things I thought of were, the man who uses the bathroom, reminded me of The Godfather, when Al Pacino goes to the bathroom to get the gun. If he does get whacked, what's your guess as to who ordered it, NY Chief?

that's the best explanation i've heard chief, just going black when you get whacked. maybe there's a song in there!

As much as I hated the abrupt cut to black (it was no FADE to black like some people are saying) I have to admit my heart was thumping watching that final scene. That was brillant. As I understand it the guy at the counter who went into the bathroom (ala Michael Corleone, that was way too obvious a Godfather reference) was supposedly Phil's nephew who appeared in an earlier episode. The black guys who came in the door are supopsedly the guys who tried to whack Tony earlier (at Livia's and Uncle Jun's bidding). And the truck driver was supposedly the brother of the guy Chris killed in the truck hijack in season 2. And of course it's possible word never got to guys that Phil sent to get Tony.

If it would have ended with us seeing through Tony's eyes, ala Meadow coming through the door then cut to black I would defintely say Tony got whacked. We would have seen the last thing he did.

I still don't like it. I was hoping that the diner would blow and Meadow would miss it because she couldn't park worth a shit.

The most realistic part of the show. I hot girl in an expensive car that needs 8 tries to parallel park a 12' spot.
