like a damn stratovarious! or maybe i should say flyingVee-O-various. & the guy knew how to straddle it like he meant it, no swinging around like he was playing a dreadnought!

Although I really like EVH's playing and tone, I'll have to take Schenkers playing and tone on UFO's "Obsession" and "Strangers In The Night". Actually for non strat ,humbucker type tones, I think those two albums have the best lead tone of all time.
Very simple set up, then and now.
Then: Gibson Flying V, (70-73, year aprox.) 50 watt Marshall tops ran nearly full up into 4/12 Marshall cabs with real deal 25 watter's. A wha wha (sounded like a crybaby to me) was used as well.
Now: Dean signature Flying V, Marshall 2205 JCM 800 head (one is favored to his other 2205's) Marshall 4/12's with reissue celestion 25 watters. He runs a wha in the front and a couple of Boss pedals through the loop (DD3 delay and Chorus Ensemble).
I still love his paying and tone, as he has kept much of his sound togather (unlike many). I do have a soft spot for his work with UFO, which to me, was one of the best, most origional Hard Rock bands of all time.

He Flat out rips.. I like his leads better than VanHalen's..that's right, I said it! Loved the tone and attitude. (before he became a useless raging drunk again who can't play live) Thanks for posting current rig by the way, I always wondered what speakers he used. Now if someone could tell me what speakers Warren Demartinni used/uses in his cab I'd also be grateful!!

If I remember correctly, Warren (around '85-'86 or so) had one particuarly good sounding Marshal 4/12 cab that was late 60's or early 70's. It had origional Green backs I think. From what many here on the forums are posting, Weber, makes the best reissue's of these. From what I've heard they are much better than the current 'Chinese' made celestions, though I havent done a direct comparison.

Man I recorded my greenback -sammi cab tonight and the results with a Bad monkey boosting it was awefully fizzy... I wonder if i have wasted all this time on speaker hunting and should have just stuck with G12t-75's in a standard marshall cab! i'm also afraid to try yet another greenback clone only to be dissapointed. Anyone have any clips of these? Nothing on the weber site..

Kapo, be very careful, Billy, (not our Billy!) may wish you into the cornfield (Twilight Zone reference)........Kapo_Polenton wrote:He Flat out rips..
