Very nice echo/delay there! Loved the flanging too. That is a damn good simulation of a echoplex  .

There are several ways of thinking of how they did this

Left side dry and slap echoplex then....and right side is delayed version of left (as you said-one repeat) and swamped in reverb

You can hear places on the record where he is throwin in the ep and taking it out. The overall formula is delayed right side drenched in verb. The verb becomes not so particular with right delay going.

However... I like to detune the right verb side for that wee bit more ominous sound. check my clip called "fx show" in Ilovemymarshall's soundclips.
Thats joe blow reverb setting but detuned -eventide .998 @100ms late feeding the verb.
Just the right wet cab was delayed and recorded dry then stereo verb was only added to that on the recording. The left cab is bone dry. I think it woulda been cool to had the mic pre/compressor sheen to add but couldn't afford that unit. I had it dww and goin live but it gets outta hand for my tastes. I like just delay. Ala how Ed did it live for real.

Thx - Strymon ElCap doing the EP thang.

Kjaerhus Audio Classic Series Flanger VST for the whoosh (it's free, btw). Had to tweek by ear...

The delay timing isn't 100% perfect (whipped this up quick), but I think I've cracked the ATBL "delay-swoosh-verb-WTFisgoingonhere" spiel.

Here's what I did:

Guitar
|
Wampler Pinnacle Deluxe
|
ElCap w/ 1 clear repeat; level the same as dry or just a hair less
(don't know milliseconds with the ElCap but should "bounce" - prolly 250-300ms / hit a chord, should sound like played twice)
|
JTM45
|
Speaker cab + SM57 mic (dead center, straight-on, 1" away)
|
DAW
|
Kjaerhus Flanger (swoosh in time; rising/falling according to original tune)
|
|--> bus out to echo chamber (Sunset iR) --> Master (no panning / levels below dry tone)
|
Master (pan 75% left channel)

(of course there's eq and comp going on too)
Flanders, the wampler pedal is your main distortion sound or it's just acting as a boost??

Yeah, but the EL Cap won't work so nice with the amp above 4 or 5.... boosting is good, delay in the front is a bitch!!

I need a second boost (using a GE10 now) to try to put the amp bellow 4 and see if my delay works better in the front... many guys use delays in that way and it was suposed to work better...

yeah... recording is ok, lots of tricks... But live sound is a bitch... slaving is cool, but EXPENSIVE ... you can't afford a nice plexi amp to sound ad because of a shitty power amp before the speaker cab... Here in Brasil poweramps are really expensive...

I was looking after the EHX caliber .44 poweramp but I was told from experienced guys that it has no punch and it kills the amps tone..... :what:

It all depends how close you want to be, and as you said, taste changes sometimes.
After 5 or 6 years searching for the brown sound, I think I'm closest than ever, but I've decided that I don't want to NAIL that, what I want is to get the core tone to play from VHI to 1984 and have all the nuances here and there... The GE10 is a must for a stock circuit (thanks, Tone Slinger) and I'm in love with it... Super quiet, and it does not change the amp's voicing at all, looks like it's part of the amp. Now I want another 'clean' boost such as the EP+ to keep the amp's volume at 4 max... and of course, the fx (phase 90 or 45, flanger, harwire reverb) that I don't have yet... I play different things so i need cleans and also different tones...
Been thinking of a tube distortion (like the Supercharger) to work as a high gain option thru the amp clean...
