Whats your main workhorse guitar

Post by Guitar-Sam » Sun Sep 03, 2006 5:11 am

What is your main axe??
Mines my 1979 25th anniversary Strat.
Bought it when I was 15(27 now)for $150 the neck was broken off it from a Jimi-wanna-be and the finish had been stripped off and refinished in natural. The body was cracked down the middle. And it had been routed for a humbucker, which was cracked allong w/ the 5 way switch from the wanna-be-Jimi smashing it recieved.
Once I got it I had the necks heel and body repaired.Installed a new JB humbucker in the bridge w/ coil split and 57'RI strat pup in middle and replaced all the pots and switch. Then a few years ago wore the frets out and had it refretted w/ Jumbo railroad track sized frets.
The neck is all yellowed now and theres nicks all over it that have turned black from sweat and finish cracks in the body that are black too.
But its got this mellow tone no other strat I've played has.It ain't worth but a couple hundred bucks but I wouldn't trade it for nothin. 8)
So whats the story behind your main axe?

It used to be a scalloped MIJ ri '62 stratocaster, but since 4 years back it's a Gary Moore sig LP.

One of the first highway one strat , got it cheap because no one wanted to put up with the shit brown color.Popped a set of Texas Specials in her , sonically this is not my favourite one , but I just automatically grab it all the time and hang off the tremelo bar treat it like shit and it will always be ready next time.Bit like an old faithful dog.

Well it depends. I always bring 2 Les Paul Customs to a show. So, depending on my mood it's either the black '78 or the cherry sunburst '79. The '78 has seen more stage time though!

My white Parker Fly is probably the one I like the best. It cuts through better and has a thicker neck. I bought it used and put the new Fly Dimarzios in it for more power and more lows and mids. Sounds terrific plays amazing.

The '96 LP Studio on the left has been my main axe since I bought it new, just in time for what turned out to be my band's last weekend engagement before we folded  but it wasn't the axe's fault.

But HERE is the guitar that's always in the back somewhere if I need her, my '82 Ibanez Artist that I bought when I was 19. The pictures don't show just how worn this guitar is, you can see one big chip in the top but not all the finish worn off around that edge, or all the big nicks dents and buckle rash all over the back -- let alone all the rusty worn spots in the hardware. I had to replace the tuners they were so bad, but I'm always looking for replacement tuners and bridges for this......

Cool guitars.I'll see if I can get the GF to scan a pic of mine.

St. August what is that amp in the back??Miller?

Flames that Les Paul looks allot like my friends 78 in color. Some one butchered his into a double cutaway. But we fill'ed it and bondo'ed the seams and sent it to a custom car painter had it finished in a color very similar to yours.House of color "Candy brandy wine" over silver with black smoked edges. His has Lawrence pups.

my main guitar is a 1970 gibson sg professional with bigsby trem and p90's and the trem never knocks the guitar out of tune! but the tuners ave been upgraded to schallers which are better. My sg is kind of a beater but it's a keeper
