Hosting your own tonefest

Post by tonejones » Wed Sep 20, 2006 11:20 pm

Hey guys,
I've been thinking about putting together a little hometown tonefest type event for awhile now.....

Just a bunch of guys with tasty amps digging the vibes.........nothing commercial/official....

Anyone have any idea where one might start looking for a place to have something like this??????

It seems like it would have to be a decent size room where some amp volume wouldn't be a big issue to those around the building......

Anybody ever done anything like this or have any ideas??????
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

VFW meeting halls are usually pretty inexpensive to rent out for a day or so. A friend with a rather large house or room in their house would work as well.

Depending on the weather I have heard of guys using large pole barns and commercial garages they had free access to. I went to one a couple years ago at a hall and it was loud and it was really difficult to say you really heard much of anything. Everybody wants to pay at the same time. The best part was that the organizer did twenty minutes of demos every 40 minutes so that everybody had to stop playing and listen. Multiple rooms would be best. Good luck.

That's what we've done at the local NJ ampfests. Greg (HeeBGB) has some industrial space so we set everything up there. This way there's no entrance fees....folks just chip in for pizza or make food runs. The last one we had turned into like 60 ppl or so, so now we're trying to get a bit more organized, though keeping it in the same space.

tonejonesfest!

I'd like to see a tonefest style thing in the UK, but I doubt there's enough people up for it.

Actually Jerry,I suggested a while back to George, that there should be a Metro amp convention, maybe each year, where we all get together and could jam, ect.George could have a Metro presentation, ect.
Everyone could meet, and it would be a fun time, but George has a lot going on recently,so I kept it a PM,and didn't post it,but since you mentioned it,yes,it could be near the factory,in Flint

I'm up for something here! But the shop is way to small to host it. I'd have to get a hall or a space.

A large recording studio with a couple rooms and a decent size lounge would be perfect. But the only large ones I'm aware of are in Detroit. Which would be fine as well.

I arranged one at a local music store. They had a stage for the jam session portion, plus the teaching rooms provided separate spaces for different amps.

They let us use the space for free. In return, they got some sales and publicity out of it.

I just emailed Mike who owns White Room recording studio to see what it would cost to book the big room next year sometime....

I'd definately be interested in a Metro Convention, Florida is a little too far for me to drive for Tone Fest
