the difference in appearance is because... different manufacturers.

the 'laquer' coating can no longer be used because the worthless EPA

says it "dangerous"----------- :?

Hey, the EPA's not useless....their policies help send thousands of great restorable classic cars to the crusher each year instead of making companies clean up their emissions.......

The EPA is god in my line of work. We test soil and water for chemicals based upon EPA regulations. We have a hell of a lot of silly hoops to jumo through

Different manufacturers? are they both phillips? is there any difference tonally? the lacquered ones are more sought after I presume?

yeah............

I got opinions about government. I'm quite knowledgeable.

The EPA is pure B*******. You're not going to die from drinking

water or breathing air.

I agree with Aiken Amps...

There is not "too" much difference in sound, in a guitar amp.

The noise floor is so high and the added benefit of noise rejection from orientating the cap is hard to notice, especially in a band situation.

However it is better to observe polarity if you know the orientation, that

I found some info that states that for non-polarized caps, when reading the value the inner foil is on the right side. That's great for mustards that have the value info printed long ways, but for some of the caps like in the photos on page two of this thread, where the info is printed around the circumfrence of the cap instead of long ways (does that make sense?), it didn't say. The thing I found also stated that for coupling caps the inner foil should go to the grid of output tube and the outer foil should go to the plate of driver tube.
I don't remember where I found the info...I just jotted it down. Might have been Hoffman or Aiken Amps sites. Maybe someone who has scoped mustards can confirm.

It's my understanding that the Sozo caps should be oriented with the ring/band toward the tubes.
May the good Lord take a liking to you!
