Hey, Dan, I would love to hear you take on Steppin Out or Politician. That set up is MADE for that tone I think. :D

I would do the second solo too but I just cant manage it cleanly on a LP. I think it mustve been an SG.

Ill try another take with better- or I should say closer- settings and a bit more crankage. Steppin Out is a song I play a lot with the 67 and now the JTM with lower gain settings. Theyre the only ones that have that thick sing to them to cop that tone but Id have to really crank it to get the sustain he has going in that tune. I wont even try to nail that tone though. Thats a tough one.

I would agree. Definitely an SG or the 335. I know it's pretty tough to get to the high A parts on the 335 type.

I think it's well documented that Clapton used the Fool SG for those particular shows. Definitely hard to do on a LP, I've been working on those parts since I first started playing 15 years ago, and still don't quite get the flow right in those upper registers.

Thats absolutely right! Thats the reason I make so few clips. When Im able to turn it up all the way Im usually too involved to make clips or else its somewhere else where I cant make clips.

Yeah. This is great to hear! I am amazed with the quality from this low volume setup you used. I should get my 45/100 done within a few weeks time now. Stuff like this makes it hard to wait!!! Great playing. I agree with Chief, Stepping Out or Politician would be great and I am pretty damn sure you could do as good a job or better than anybody else here. ANYHOW very cool indeed, SIR!

Billy Batz wrote:Shakti just gave me a heads up. He said Clapton has said he plugged into the normal channel of the 45/100 and has the treble and presence up. Ill have to try that too.
EC may have had the mids up also. turning up the presence and mids will get you closer to EC's cream sound without a treble booster

Its really tough to get those treble booster tones out of this amp by itself. Those tones just have such a clear, tight pick attack while at the same time the notes are huge and thick probably from the bass being up high. I cant really get that with this setup. Its either too bassy or too trebly. I try to stick with the live tones. Maybe if I added a high brite cap it would work but Id rather not. I could always build a rangemaster clone. I had a time machine boost but thats been gone for more then a year.

Personally I don't buy into the Rangemaster theory with Clapton, but that's a can of worms that's best left unopened.

And mids on a Marshall is at 10, always! 8)
