TSL better then my plexi?
Ok I got a Marshall 1987 50 watt head. Maybe I am dialing it in wrong. But I did some short clips and the TSL sounds close enough but at lower volumes.
Each clip contains two very short snippits of first amp then the other. BUT all clips are mixed with a JCM 800 2203.
For the plexi settings were jumped normal volume on 2 treble on 6. Pres:4, Bass:4, Mids:6, Treble: 6
It sounds a bit muffled or too compressed. Maybe I need a 100 watt? See if you can figure which is which. I was doing this sick as a dog and just trying to knock it out so the timing is jacked up a bit.

the highend is different. I prefer the first amp. perhaps it is the plexi?

Not only the high end!Roe wrote:the highend is different. I prefer the first amp. perhaps it is the plexi?
The first clips sound full and rich with growl, whereas the second clips sound flat and lifeless.
Also the tone density of the first clips is 3 times more, than the tone density of the second clips. The second clips wouldt make me sick!

The fault almost always is sitting in front of the amp

I must confess, that the first clip I only have listened to one time, then always clip #2 & #3 - but now after listening again I can say, that on the 1-st clip it's vice-versa of my stating above. Here the second part is the one with the richer & fuller sound.
When you play with much gain/loudness, I'd start with the Treble, Middle & Presence about at 6 and keep the Bass low around 2

Yeah on the first clip your right the 2 part (plexi) has fuller complex tones.
I will try those settings. I guess I am also trying to compare the two amps obviously when one sounds better for certain applications then other depending on the song. Would a 100watt amp have a fuller tone then the 50? Larger? I know it would be a lot freaking louder.
TSL has the wider frequency range in low mids -fuller.

A 100W amp isn't much louder than a 50W, but more dynamic and does have more of this 'ooomph'keano wrote:Would a 100watt amp have a fuller tone then the 50? Larger? I know it would be a lot freaking louder.

Definitely 2-nd, that's punchy and growling!
1-st is weak & diffuse sounding, a sound for the garbage can.

Re: TSL better then my plexi?
Cool sound clips! Very interesting. What cab?
No doubt though which of the two amps I prefer... 1987 is the sound
It has that great complex tone with rich overtones. A little bit more agressive and dirty or gritty in the treble freqs. Not as compressed as the TSL. But mot of all I hear that fat "woody" living early Marshall sound. Very clear when on the final chords (E up to A?) in the Shake Me clip.
But I guess many ordinary listeners would say both amp sounds great with no big differences.

They are maybe the luckier ones, who save a lot of money, because they are pleased with cheaper amps & guitars, when for them the differences aren't audibleGunner wrote:But I guess many ordinary listeners would say both amp sounds great with no big differences.

Re: TSL better then my plexi?
Thanks guys and very true. I did some clip comparisons of just the amps without the 800 involved and ppl couldn't tell the difference and I am like it is there listen again.
I think it all depends on the material obviously. There is mid range meat on the plexi, but the TSL isn't miles off. I played a 5153 recently and found it very much like the plexi mid thick overtones. No fizz.

Keano, I'd like you did your clips without describe which one was the amp.
I think there are so many surprises in this way ... check it out !
