This is the best HEAVY tone I have ever heard !!!

Post by slashsound » Sat Apr 18, 2009 3:47 am

You guys, I cant believe what I'm hearing this is by far the best heavy tone I have ever heard. What bothers me is that when you compare it to the other clips of the same amp, the other clips pale in comparison and get nowhere near the tone that this one has. Check this out !

Awesome http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dcGHCscAxc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Not awesome yet supposedly same amp: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTpNAsaU ... 8&index=43" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I just wanted to share this with you all and get your thoughts.

To me, this thing sounds nothing special. Sounds like the average Rectos or Kranks imho- no soul!

I agree with Robert, there's nothing special about the sound of this amp.
If you like this tone, go for a rectumfrier. It lacks character and organic sound to me...

shame he ruined that wonderful amp with all that white noise!! I like the second clip better, because I can actually hear some of the tones. Its STRICTLY opinion, though. I think most guys here go for less of that 80s metal sound. Now, hey, don't get me wrong! I am a metal freak! I mean, I went to GIT in 85. Come on, I just stopped using master volumes and started to get real tone, I do use pedals to push the plexis, but not as far as those sounds, just before that raspy, high end overcomes the tonal spectrum. BUt it sounds WAY better than any boogie I ever heard!

I don't think the two clips are even comparable. They're obviously not recorded under the same situations, and room sound or even the slightest difference in mic position will drastically alter the recorded results. I don't know anyone whose workbench/workshop is very flattering acoustically.

Everything you guys said... that is noisy and no different than any other high gain amp. I'll keep my JCM800 stock and pushed with one of Outlier's modded YJM 308. Sounds way more natural and like i am playing with an extra tube in the amp without losing the JCM flavour. Need more gain for thrashing, i would tighten it up with an eq pedal for the tightness and done. Furthermore, that first clip is probably doubled and he added EQ which is way different than an amp on a workbench as already indicated. A PEavey 5150 would probably do that tone with an eq pedal.

ps- the second clip sounds way better and will get you close to Slash's sound if you are still after it. Atleast it doesn't mush out.

I know exactly what you all mean by this amp not having any soul... in the vintage sense, but for Nu Metal and Metal...I cant think of a better rythm sound IMO. Thanks for your thoughts though, I love hearing from you all.

I don't know, when I push my plexis, with drop tuning, it rattles the walls...total metal sound, but more like Tool or Kings X than NUmetal. Its really preference. I try to get my amp sound, but with more zing. I do like some JCM800s I heard, boosted with a tube screamer or OD 1 boss pedal. It doesn't sound too too fizzy, but the JCM 800s are still not warm like a 1992 or 1959 amp.

OK this stuff is all highly opinion. For ME, the heaviest thing I have ever heard is Sod Hauler, live.
Now, the myspace stuff doesn't do it justice at all but here it is: http://www.myspace.com/sodhauler" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

They're a three-piece with guitar being supported by two Sound City 120's, one per cabinet.
The bass player plays into a SUNN Coliseum driving a 8x12, well THING.

They turn everything up and there you go.

Loud, yes, but also Heavy for a standard rock setup.

Not for me, I like a tight bass and no sag. I cant stand the flabby farting bass that many transistors and tube rectifiers give amps.

Sounds cool! And HEAVY. I agree with the no soul thing, not my kind of amp, but it doesn't sound bad. Clip two was crap tho.
Wow man man... I just heard (insert a Zeppelin song) for the millionth time! I'm gonna do it again!
Page is the man.
