Can a Low-Z line out be used to feed a 2nd amp? Something like a Radial DI or Hughes & Kettner Direct box? I think they're used for sending a line to a PA or recording device, right?

Both of them have a speaker simulated line out signals and is far from ideal for slaving.

So with the e906, did you engage the high end roll-off at all?? And how did you position the mic??
I am going to put up the frequency analysis of your Unchained snippet -- from what I saw, you duplicated that low end almost perfectly -- a nice bell shape low down around 60Hz, albeit lower dB, it is still there and it is there on Eddies original track...

e906 set at the middle "neutral" setting. You know for the Unchained clip, I cheated and added a bit of eqSparky4444 wrote:So with the e906, did you engage the high end roll-off at all?? And how did you position the mic??

+4db of 100Hz and +2db of 12k on the Waves API 550A. Got the low end good, gave up on the hi-end, couldn't duplicate that creamy gain...

the low-end is almost perfect...as far as the creamy top end goes, at this point, slaving seems like the most feasible way to achieve it...I've tried almost everything from mic'ing position to eq'ing to everything, and that delicate balance between the mid's and mid-highs is elusive...For the most part, that area is almost flattened out, on average -- see the snapshots on my HFT thread of the eq distribution...Blix wrote:e906 set at the middle "neutral" setting. ..tonite, I am going to use the Aracom line outs and send my Orange TH30 to the Plexi but put my Speck EQ in between and see if eq'ing at that point can get the balance right...on some level, any result that can smooth out those highs while still maintaining the growl and bite should get us on the right path

Yeah the slaving seems to actually sweeten the tone a bit, I bet the Matrix power amp plays a part there though, it's quite fantastic. But I have to try a Variac someday as well, I think that's a good piece of the puzzle for me.Sparky4444 wrote:the low-end is almost perfect...as far as the creamy top end goes, at this point, slaving seems like the most feasible way to achieve it...I've tried almost everything from mic'ing position to eq'ing to everything, and that delicate balance between the mid's and mid-highs is elusive...For the most part, that area is almost flattened out, on average -- see the snapshots on my HFT thread of the eq distribution...Blix wrote:e906 set at the middle "neutral" setting. Looking forward to your results!
Man, we should get a billionaire into this, to build replica Sunset Sound and 5150 studios

@ Blix.
Can you try to slave the 1960 to your 5150 III 50 watt amp using the FX return input of the EVH amp?
I am verry curious how that will sound.

Anyone have one of these? I guess they are made pretty solid for a Beheringer product. I dont understand the impedence matching capabilities. Cast aluminum housing. $35.00 on Amazon.

Awesome, let us know how it works out. Be super careful soldering the speaker cable to it, it's the least place you'd want a cold and weak solder joint.

The DI100 is just a regular DI box. The GI100 is similar to a H&K Redbox with speaker simulation, but as the speaker sim can be dialled, it can work for slaving, but you'll have little control of the line out level.vanhalen5150 wrote:Anyone have one of these? The impedance matching is what all DI's do, from high(instrument) to low impedance(line level).
Now I'd much rather buy a Line-out box from David Bray, only $40 and got all the important features:

I'm under the impression those Behriners are also the load? You amp plugs straight in?

No load. The silver one is just a plain jane DI box for acoustic guitars and keyboards and stuff, the red one you can put between your head and cab for a line level signal.
So if you want a line-out box to use for slaving, the Bray is a much better option, and it's not Mehringer...

Re: Slaving is quite damn awesome.
Your correct. I just downloaded the manual. The storefront description is a little confusing. "Handles 3000ws". Well, yeah, if your load is a steel i-beam.Blix wrote:vanhalen5150 wrote:I'm under the impression those Behriners are also the load? You amp plugs straight in?

You still have to have a cab plugged in for the load impedence. Glad I asked.
