As mentioned above, it reduces highs, but it also stabilizes the sound and keeps it from getting too loose.

im i wrong or you wrote 39 instead of 36?

Ibeen working on some 39, last year a client brought his jmp 76 with the 39++ mod on it... im working on some schematics, its a very complete mod with 3 channels but its not the AFD sound, its de Lynch/Demartini/Aldrich sound.

If you what to try some real confirmed #39 spects take of the 2n2 cap on the #34, put a 680n on the second cathode insted of the 100n and a 680n on the CF
yes 39, i have the right scheme, & i have done a few small changes, thanks for the info
do you have the #39 schem?

Find the Caswell work not a good idea....isn't the right sound....34 emulate 36 so the stages voicing are the same

I actually like the Caswell sound on the two I have done, I agree not AFD as you hear it on the record but a useful tone nonetheless.

The 39 mod isn't really like the AFD tone, but it only takes you to change a couple of parts to get it into the ball park.

I've just been playing around with a 1k5/1u on the 4th stage which is sounding pretty nice. Now I just need to shape that tone some more.
