So Benny are you thus saying these are "the real g12-80"?

80's 1982 jcm 800 speakers......none of modern speakers sound exactly like old G12-80.....classic lead 80 is very similar but not equal.....

I think G12H30 are a better speaker for AFD tone, Cl80 dont break up enough, G12 80 were only used for one year then removed because they weren't liked very much, Marshall went back to using G12H30 in their cabs, anyways, here is a clip from my JMP 50w clone, this is just going into my 1x12 g12h30 box, so you can hear the speaker is getting pushed too hard, but the tone is there, i have a couple if G12H30 black backs on the way to me for my 4x12 cab,

In a period i was a g12h30 cab, for me have too bright speaker for AFD sound....treb are very strong and compressed....36 mod like 34 are bright....on g12h30 sound too unbalanced....

yes, but what is the second best option? (real g12-80s in good shape are not always available). It seems that people do not like the classic lead 80 too much and that Wgs replaces the liberator 80 with the et90.

Sounds close, probably the closest of all your clips Nigel but there is just a tad missing. With this setup I urge you to try JJ 6CA7. I'm also fairly convinced after using Classic Lead 80 from eighties, G12-H30 75hz from '74 & '71 ... and listening to the clips of ´78 G12-80 with 1777 Lead Cone @ 2:26 that they are what's used on the recording. You are extremely close, it's like 98,5% there :-)
