Jimi Hendrix' Gear and Mods at West Coast Organ and Amp

His guitar slung across his back, his dusty boots is his cadillac.

it seems perfect !
i didn't read carefully enough about the seperate power supply, that's great.

now, you just have to do some clips, hopefully ;)

Xplorer,
I think you could be happy with this mod too
have you got a Marstran pt in your 45/100, right?
you need only an extra filter cap, and some diodes.
yes, I will try to make some decent clips when all will be ok, maybe I first have to change back the choke.. is your choke a RS or a 352-114?

yes i do, but i didn't do the west coast mod into my 45/100, i did it into a metro SL69.

but who knows, i have a second 45/100 that i never use.
i don't know about the choke i have, it's maybe a 4 or 10 henrys from marstran, on the 45/100, i don't remember.

you should post some pictures too !

Great story on the wah Dave. I saw the video of you showing the woodstock wah as well. Cool story. Have you got photos of the inside of the wah or are you not allowed to post them?

TDK
Sepulveda vs. Chicago
What's behind the move ? When did it happen ?

The Wah pedal from the 1968 period has been called the “transition model” by the knowledgable builders out there because it came between the older Clyde McCoy pedal and the new model Vox was tooling up for in late 1968.
Some folks refer to that new design as the “Sepulveda model” because it was made right in Sepulveda CA in the Thomas/Vox factory with outsourced parts and circuit boards.

Sometime in early 1969 I was visiting Bob at the Vox engineering department and saw some of the assemblies for the new Vox Wah pedal which was slated to arrive on the market en masse in 1970.

To get the rest of the parts I picked through some TDK and other inductors after hours with Bob, and got several to take with me.

The photo of the bottom of the board isn't right. There is supposed to be a capacitor soldered there.

ok,
finally I recorded a clip of my 45/100 with a straight Marshall 4x12 cab, loaded with celestion blackback's 30w H 55.
I've placed a SM57 not so near to cab grill cloth and a little off axis, going into a crappy behringer mic preamp left in flat, and than into my pc.
no eq, compression or reverb added.
amp settings: vol1 7.5, vol2 0, bass 3, middle 6, treble 4, pres 8.5
a germanium fuzz face (with a 50k input pot about halfway) is always on, with vol to max and fuzz to about 1.5 (not o'clock)
Into bright top amp input, I plugged a strato with slider's 69 pickup, playing with volume from 4 to 7, without going beyond.
my playing style is very different from Jimi (unfortunately!!! ) so please excuse my sloppy Hendrix chops.. :peace:

I forgot one thing:
The amp is heavy attenunated by an HotPlate at -16 dB.
I recorded at home and my neighbors could kill me! :peace:

Same PU position for castle part, but with volume at 7.
first part of clip is neck pickup alone, with volume at 6/7
