So here's the 250p treble cap:

WTTJ Solo 2:

And here is the long forgotten spec from this morning:

Forgotten spec sounds pretty good :listen:

I think the 250p clips sound good, but are a little too loose on the bass strings, the other clips sound good too, and have more bite. What do you think yourself ? If you could do a clip of scom with the 250p.
I feel just the 250p treble doesn't quite get me there either. It feels even looser in the bass on things like Nightrain where you want that bright crunch and bite for the riffs. It didn't quite do the SCOM thing either. The closest I'v gotten towards SCOM is the 1n bright cap turned way down.

Ahhhh, crap...... off course it does........

I do think it was 250p/270k with some bright cap. I'll try again later.

With all this going on, i fired up my old 72 jmp 100w amp and done a quick clip,
SCOM, settings p,b,m,t,6, g1, 4, g2, 2, mv 3, speakers Marshall v30 from the 90s, EL34s and AP1 pickups
Its too loud to go any higher with the MV, been and seen and done that not going back lol,

clip,

My clip is on the left, org on the right

Yeah i hear you, it was worth a shot, could be the speakers, i never really liked CL80 for scom tone.

Well, the speaker on the other side of my 2x12 is a V30....... no 6550s?

Still don't get how you get a useful tone at such low gain settings.... there is something I'm missing.

Celestion v30 sounds different to the Marshall version, I know Celestion make both, but they sound different,

No 6550s in this amp, I'm more of a EL34 guy,

I dont want you to mod your amp to hell and back, but this sounds good too,

2k7.68u 10k 3k3.68u 820r

I pretty much think it’s been there already. One of the gain pots is pretty much soldered apart by now.......

It would also be fair to say that if you as much as sneeze in here then that sneeze is in my amp by the evening......

Quick update. Just to let you know I am not slacking.

It was in yesterday evening, but to late to make clips. As soon as I got the house to myself again I'll fire it up.

It was really quick 'cause all it took was moving 4 wires.

WTTJ Solo2:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMT3UrVqVUg

Nighttrain:

Now I just have to wait 'til I can put it on 3 and do SCOM..... And I need to find a 3k3 resistor. These are with 2k7/.68 on both stages.

So now I'm looking at used 1960AV/BVs as well....... this project is officially off them rails.............

Sounds good its got a lot of balls, what is your spec now ?
I also like putting two 1k5+1k5 for 3k, if you find it has too much bass try .47u on the third,
2k7.68u, 10k, 3k.47u, 820r, but 3k3 sounds great for scom, its just trying to find the right combo for your amp.

It's still your suggested spec, just with the stage order flipped:

2k7/.68/.022/470k/500p/5n

10k/.022

2k7/.68/.022

820

500p33k

I did manage to find some 1k5s and 1k8s so I was gonna try those together.

It's freakin me out a bit moving the 10k stage 'cause I was just thinking about that last week when I first realized that this mod has absolutely nothing to do with what I thought it might be. I was watching one of the Lee Jackson mod videos where he does a SL just like that. It is the only time I'v seen anyone do it that way and it sounded pretty cool and stringy, so I thought maybe if you boosted that with a 2k7 stage it might be something....... alas.....

I'v was doing Jose stuff last year so now I tend to stick a 2k7 stage in front of everything. Just in case, you know, to see if it makes it better, ha ha ha....

Yeah i have done a lot of messing about with the Jose mod,

That spec is good, I found that SCOM worked best with 3k3.68u, but then NT didtn't seem to like it lol, so i settled on 3k.68u it seemed to work best for all, but it might be different with your setup.

The main problem I have with SCOM is that my "LP" guitar is not a Les Paul, but a Nik Huber with a P90 in the neck. I was gonna change it to a APH-1 but apparently it is not routed big enough to fit the HB. I have other guitars with a neck HB but they are all different scale and woods etc....

So now I only have to get a Fryette Power Station, a 1960AV/BV and a Slash LP...... and I was hoping to get there with some resistors and caps...... oh well.
