The Rick Derringer hardtail Strat on the cover of All American Boy, had a Gibson style wraparound IIRC

I saw it for sale at a Vintage show, it was originally built for Johnny Winter.

JF, are you going for a bolt-on or set neck?

I have to give my 2 cents on all this. For a strat (I'm talking origional style here; top routed 6 screw origional style trem) The best tone is the origional style trem bridge, the 6 screw into the body one. The newer Fender two point trems sucks out tone and resonance, sorta like right in between a origional Fender bridge and a Floyd. The actual metal blend in the Fender blocks seems to have changed over the years, with the older ones sounding better. Callaham seems to have noticed this.

The hardtail models lose alot of that sorta 3 dimensional 'airy' sorta sound that the trem models have. The trem gives off a sixth sense sorta tonal charecter thats hard to describe, but strat purists inately know.

I like a bone nut, and with all due respect to Fill (alot of respect for sure !) I think that the nut affects overall tone on a guitar. As an example, if I fret a c on the g string at the 5th fret, and then reach behind the nut and press down on the g string, the note goes sharp, even though I'm still fretting the note. See, the strings always have relation to the nut, which affects the whole of the sound.

I also like klusion tuners/F tuners. They have less mass and work great.

Very interesting........

How about single OR dual neck rod? Some say the single rod is better sounding, some don't .........

I like the single acting vintage style rod. The newer dual acting type rods stiffen the tone a bit more, resulting in less dynamics. The vintage rod/designed necks are warmer sounding.

WHY YOU UNGRATEFUL, NO GOOD...

Hey, TS!! Good to hear from you!! Seems like a long time.

SO... I've never noticed any loss of 3d-ness from a hardtail, but I guess a point could be made about the trem block and springs contributing to the tone, especially the springs acting almost like drone notes in the backround. (Isnt that how Jimmy Page got the guitar sound at the end of "Over The Hills And Far Away" with his double neck?) Urban legend has it that he played the part on one neck, but had the pickups on the OTHER neck active, giving that drone-note effect. I could see that possibly adding a kind of fullness to a trem Strats tone. I DO think a hardtail exploits more of the inherent "woodiness" of a guitars sound, though.
Sorry, bro, but I still stick by my guns: Whether its guitars or chicks, a nice hard tail is the way to go!! (top is rounded, mids are tight, and the bottom is full and defined... how ya gonna beat THAT??)
I dont really understand the example you made of the nut contributing to tone by bending behind the nut of a fretted note, though. Yeah, the note goes sharp, but how is the nut affecting the tone there? All you're really doing is stretching the string, which you could also do behind the bridge, say if it was a trapeze tailpiece (archtop type) guitar. I dont get how the nut is involved in the tone there. You're still obtaining the basic note and tone off of the fret, just stretching it from another location, so please 'es-plain me, mon!!   / 8) 8) 8)

I agree. And with some care that type of Trem can stay in tune pretty good. Here

Great points for sure ! Hell, I get SO into all the sonic variables that at times, I'm not certain about things from day to day.
