shannon curfman-metropoulos amp review

Post by jcs » Wed Sep 13, 2006 3:50 am

just caught the lovely shannon curfman in kansas city with her band (who i think is out of flint michigan?)

shannons guitarist had a metro 100 amp with 4x12,very very good tones indeed, the guitarist (whos name escapes me now) played a reverend most of the night but also pulled out a gibby es-175 and a strat..

fat juicy but crunchy plexi tones as i expected but the squeaky clean tones where the guitarist accompanied shannon alone for example (on a very personal song shannon wrote about a failed relationship) were SUPERB, bouncy sparkly just beautiful as good as the best fenders and voxes imo..

let me just say the "tone of the guitar" was there in spades as well, too many times i have heard marshalls where the amp sort of masked the tone of the guitar, not the case here when guitars were switched ...

well the band did a great performance, shannon sang her heart out and let me tell you i am very critical of singers guitarists but this girl is unreal and she has so many years to write songs and grow sheesh!!

shannon is a superb soloist too but i gotta tell you her 4x10 fenders were a bit overshadowed by that metropoulos 100 4x12!

actually the 4x12 may have been a bit too directional even in the outdoor knuckleheads saloon stage, but nothing a few beam blockers or a plexi shield wouldnt solve  ...

oh, i got to chat with shannon a bit too very sweet girl, easy on the eyes too :D i bought her first cd now out of print and it is excellent and also looking forward to her new material they are working on to be released soon....

Shannon is a peach!!! I'm working onher to get a metro, but she's in an endoresment deal with Fender right now. That's what backstage is for, right?

The guitar player and drummer are old friends. Jason Van Dorne and Kamm Skeels. Those guys actually took over when I left that cover band I was in. But when Shannon came knocking, it was all over.

I've been trying to get Jason to start a blog on here or on his site. but he still seems a little overwhelmed. I know he bought a laptop and wireless so he can continue his job while on the road.
He does web design for Vintage King audio. Some more old friends.

I'll email him and direct him to this thread.

i talked with the guitarist and told him i hung out here a bit..

nice to see big marshall style amps in clubs, can you tell us more about how his amp is set up,speakers tubes etc?

there were several gear heads in attendance  i told them about the forum too, most of the guys i know in kc hang at the gear page or les paul forum when they can...

btw, shannon and band were a bit disappointed at the turnout (maybe a 100 or so),but tuesday nights in kc are slow, years ago i saw mick taylor in a club on tuesday, same deal (maybe even less attendees), i was happy though mick signed a bunch of cds-albums :D 8) ...

That head is one of my early '67 clones. On aluminum chassis. It has the Drake 2" style OT, JJ's, Sozos all the usual stuff. The cab has Heritage H's.

I know Jason has a couple Power Brakes with him, but I have no idea Shannon is letting him play. Hopefully he's driving those heritage pretty hard.

He probably has a few pedals too. He picked this stuff up the day before they drove to Minneapolis to rehearse. So I have no idea which combination of stuff he's using.

Dude, this metro amp rocks...i'm glad i'm not the only one who notices! haha...i'm using a boss ds1 distortion and as of last night in omaha, a crybaby. that's it...my mid 70s boss dm1 delay machine has died on me once again...i do miss having a little delay...oh well.

we're having a great time out here, and it's just getting started...on the way to denver tonight and telluride tomorrow...

thanks to all who have been coming to our shows!

Shannon rock's wish she'd come down under.

Friend of mine about 3-4 years ago bought her CD from the states , when he was over there.

I might have to give it back to him one of these days.

great vocals , great chops , what more can I say.
