
I wanted to do an Asian style with trestle cuts. I get off on working with thick slabs, but they're heavy and you have to think to get it broken down right while keeping all appendages.
I hand cut all the mortises. I love a razor sharp hand tool... and after a day working in IT there's something nice about being a Neanderthal. And I keep all the inclusions, unless it compromises the structure. I like the fact that it reminds me that the piece comes from a real tree.
Downstairs is where finishing takes place. My practice area is here too, so you don't sling varnish around like crazy. BLO with urethane finish.
