My 1987 has become a nudist?

Post by Cygnus_X-1 » Fri Mar 16, 2007 6:39 pm

Strange, it seems that my 50w doesn't want to be in it's head case! I have been noticing a nasty crackling sound that would appear whenever I would play a low G hard. I was first convinced that it was a cold solder joint, but I opened the amp up and everything was soldered nice and tightly to where it should be. When I fired up the amp without the head case, it was fine with no crackling! But upon putting it back in the case, it began to crackle again. Sometimes you can bring about a bit of cracking by tapping the head case or moving it slightly. I think it might have something to do with the metal sheet on the bottom of the case. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before?

That sure sounds like a bad connection somewhere.

When I was in high school me and a couple of friends learned how to play that whole album note for note. To bad I forgot most of it. :D

Well guys, I managed to locate and fix the problem, it was the metal sheet in the head case, and by removing that, I fixed the crackling problem. On another note, I also noticed by doing this, a series of small pops I was getting upon flipping the standby switch were also gone.

Thanks jerrydyer, it is in fact called an avatar, and I have seen Rush in Rio, an awesome live show! Too bad that Alex Lifeson's rig is so complex nowadays. I miss the original setup of two 50w stacks, some effects, and a ES-33(4)5 His original 50w plexis from the first albums in the 70's inspired me to build my own 50w plexi! Have you heard about the new album they recorded, set for release sometime in the spring? I think they are putting a new epic and a few instrumentals on it.

There was one point when I could play the entire Permenant Waves album, but I ended up forgetting the two easiest songs on the album! On 2112, I think I still know bits and pieces of each section of the song, but I still know Passage to Bangkok. My absolute favorite song to play is Working Man, because the two solos let you really open up and go crazy!

Of course in my case, halfway through the solo I end up tearing the skin under my nail, and suddenly even the slightest half-step bends become painful to pull off. :( (now I know why some guitarists show so much emotion during soloing, they're probably in so much pain during each bend!)
