I watched American Idol....

Conceded to the wife's request and watched AI with her last night. It was Latin night. Two people did Santana songs. Both guitar players tone SUCKED! There was a guy playing a nylon string classical that sounded sweet. But the other guys tones were horrible, especially for a Santana groove. Another reason not to watch.

I guess I don't like Carlos' tone much better these days either.........

Needs to go back and listen to his own version of "Black Magic Woman" again and see where he went wrong.

Wasn't even that good, Andy. The one guy sounded like pure fuzz with no mid or bottom.

I know, I heard it. But it didn't seem that far off from Carlos' current tone to me -- other than being a little more limp because it wasn't a raging tube amp!! I hated both those songs when they were on the radio anyway so it's not like they were ruined for me.

Mike,I have a confession that I have watched it before and the contestant Jordin Sparks from Glendale,Arizona.,who we saw sing in our church choir last Christmas.She has a powerful voice and we could hear her without a microphone very clearly.She is the one bright spark(sic),in an abysmal show.
I often say,why isn't there an instrumentalist American Idol,with guitarists,bassists,keyboard players,drummers,and please let's not have Dave Navarro involved at all,

The guitarist the other day was pretty weak in his Carlos imitation and he had a weird humbucker placed between the PRS pickups.The nylon strung guitar playing was decent.
I still think an instrumental Idol would be cool,encourage younger people to play music,and not just Bodom or Cradle of Filth,ect.
Where are the next Steve Vai's,Eddie's,ect.?
