Humbucker Help

Post by Dax-The-Ax » Fri Mar 04, 2005 1:28 pm

I have a Les Paul Standard thats sounds killer. Pinch harmonics jump off the guitar and it is very ballsy. My SG Standard doesn't have the sensitivity and power that the Paul has, although it sounds great in its own AC/DC kinda way. They both have stock pickups. What pickup would you suggest putting in the bridge of my SG? Would the BurstBucker 3 do the trick? Any suggestions appreciated.

 :D

Are they stock PUP's? What year is your LP?

Hmm not to sure on those PUP's for that year. Maybe you can find some info on Google or someone else can chime in.

Hey Dax,
You can always do what I did, email Gibson (although it will take them about 2 months to return it).
Let's get going, 'cause there's too much music, too little time!!!!

You can measure the DC resistance of both p-ups to see what the difference is. Hotter p-ups will have a higher DC resistance. I'm gonna assume that both gtrs have alnico magnet p-ups in them.

My guess.....the LP has a 498T in the bridge and the SG has 57 classics.
Some pauls of that era came with hotter p-ups as stock.

I'm with ya too. Those 490/498/500 series of pickups were damn popular in Gibsons before their Burstbucker period.

The 500t is obnoxious and cheap sounding due to the ceramic magnet. I put an alnico 5 in a 500t I have in a strat and it sounds real nice now. SInce Duncan makes all the GIbson branded p-ups I guess I "made" a JB out of it since they'd be about the same in specs.
