Rare Steve Stevens Washburn SS80 Video Clip

Post by yngwie308 » Sun Jun 17, 2007 4:58 pm

Yes,you know I am excited as I have found an extremely rare clip of Steve's Washburn SS80 being played live,at NAMM '93,as opposed to a Vince Neil video.
Steve has his plexi Marshall rack and his Park head as well.
This is the natural finished model of SS80 that he had, along with the black SS80's and the black/white SS100 Frankenstein Famous Monsters, which he still has.
The models built for Steve in the Chicago Custom Shop all had the unfinished headstocks, with the reverse logoed Washburn in Famous Monsters style, plus the reverse thread double adjustable truss rod,all features that mine posesses, having ordered mine as soon as I heard of the announcement.back in 1993.
Steve is jamming on Voodoo Chile(Slight Returm) and can be seen using his green raygun for effect.
Steve still has the SS100 Frankenstein model,I love these guitars and hope to get eventually the clip from the '93 MTV Music Awards, with Steve playing on Vince Neil's "You're Invited But Your Friend Can't Come".
Here is my poster from Japan, showing this guitar from this video:

This is like finding a lost Van Halen show to me guys!!

Best value out there for a Floyd/Charvel/Jackson type guitar and the necks are brilliant.

Damn,I would buy these guitars all day long, they are so cheap and they kill, seriously, but that's just my opinion!
I posted the MIM Reverse headstock Strat and evrybody went crazy, this guitar kills that one for a lot less coin too...

Here is a rare seriously used SS100 that lives in Thailand, note the original
Frankenstein graphics:

[
This is a rare guitar,Steve still has his SS100.
Now these FIMC 'Custom Shop' Charvels,as all Charvels are now,if you can even get one,ar great reproductions of Warren DeMartini's Ratt guitars, with the RTM SD pickuos,I favor the dinky French Graphique' one myself, these guitars are way above $3K,so a 400-500 buck Washburn could be seen as a value because these Charvels aren't any better made or do they play as well..
[
Here is one of Steve Stevens old custom shop Jacksons, that was in Germany last time I checked, this is cool and kinda what the Washburn is based on,Steve's Glow Charvel.By the way Steve must think I am some kind of stalker by now,I really am only interested in guitars and their history, the players are cool, but the guitars are where it's at:

Or you could buy these:

Anybody on the fence regarding a Frankenstein Strat, check out a Washburn..ok I rest my case  Sighs of relief

Steve Stevens has a new solo record coming out soon calledMEMORY CRASH some short excerpts are playing in this piece about the photographer shooting his cover:
Inside the link,clip on TV ad;

http://www.brooks.edu/tv/about-rockstar.asp

Can't wait for this album to drop,Steve is still a way exciting player in his own right and he comes up with the most incredible riffs and guitar tones'
If anyone listens to the Vince Neil Band's cd Exposed from '94,if you tune out Vince's bleating, you have one of the heaviest guitar albums made,Steve plays all guitars and bass, and this cd was sadly overlooked at the time and still, yet it includes some heavy rock guitar :D

Yeah, I remember when Steve started using those, I really was loving his tone on the V. Neil stuff. I saw one of those guitars, black and maple neck it was, about 4 yrs ago at a Music go Round. I think it was $220, so I could have bought it for $200. It was near mint. I remember thinking "Damn, all these locking trem guitars are going for nothing now". Wish I would have had the cash.

Yeah Billy,I've seen some really nice examples go for $500-600 at most,it breaks my heart as the necks on these are a little larger, but this guitar is built to destroy as MSG would say!!

I know that I sometimes get in my 'origional' spec Fender Strat mode at times, but I tell ya, that Washburn strat, or Charvel's, or any good strat copy with Floyd Rose are workhorses that can literally play a whole set without going out of tune (wish I could say the same for origional spec strats) I'm talkin mucho bar abuse as well, I've done this often. Now if you break a string, then your up the creek without a paddle, but by using reatively fresh strings this rarely happens.

Billy, next time a good one comes on the market, let's check it out,the early models had some issues with the mateal being soft and the Floyd went out of tune, unacceptable.Si FMIC was selling the Original Floyd Roses tremeloes then and I used the Fender bridge and locking nut, problem solved. We had to mals short wooded dowels to bring the treble pickup closer to the strings, but overall, the Custom shop made Washburs are so chep right now and what a bargain, even with some work or mods, you can nab one for less than a MIM Strat.
If you ever consider it Billy let me know as there is nothing[/b] I don't know about these guitars! To me mine does the whole EVH thing and the neck pickup is very warm and almost jazzy, which is cool for clean and a suprise in a metal type guitar as this.If I had a cheaper one,I would place am Original FR trem amd the SD Custom Shop RTM pickup in the bridge and maube '59 or Jazz in the neck. The neck isn't that fat, compared to an Ibanez Wizard of course it is.This has been one of my favorite guitars ever!

Yeah, I recall seeing photo's in the mags back in the early to mid 90's, and seeing Steven's with the 'bare' one with the maple neck, like the photo at the top of this thread. I thought it looked perfect. Actually, my current work horse warmoth strat is a bare, rear loaded (well, clear nitro) ash with a maple neck, with a Custom Custom in it. I also have an old limited edition Charvel/Jackson 'dinky' I think they called it. It has that body shape like Warren's "French writing strat". The rear loaded strat type guitars with Floyds ,are just about my fav. design, as they look cool and easily accomidate most any sound or playing style. I'll have to get some pic's up.
