I think I just bought a little piece of music history. I'm not sure just yet but when I get it here in front of me I will be better able to tell. This should be really interesting to Myopic Void (Eric). I will post pics when I get it. It may be nothing or it may be something. I want to get it in my hands before I start sending out the requests for info to the guy who designed it and built it back in the 60s or 70s. I googled it and nothing came up about it. He made another simular piece of equipment for some greats but I can't find jack about this piece. I'm pretty excited. I'll keep you guys updated. I may not get it at all! You can never tell about UPS. I'm stoked.

Nah, I wish. I do know where a maestro Theremin is at though, that is the same kind as Jimmys. No this is just a mixing board. One thing my little studio has never had was a decent mixing board. That is cured now. $81 shipped! They didn't know what they had. Channel 7 is dead but I figure it is an easy fix. THe guy who designed it and built it just got his own exhibit at Rock Hall for his contribution to music recording equipment. No it ain't NEVE or Neumann. He's American. Took care sound wise for such as the Grateful Dead, the Who, Joe Walsh, Peter Frampton, Jeff Beck and scores of major touring acts of the 60's and 70's.

I know it ain't what many of you thought. I thought Myopic (Eric) would think it was cool cause he seems to be more in tune with recording equipment and recording than most here.

Bob Heil designed and built the board. Very vintage looking piece. Should get it some time next week. Scared that the UPS gorillas will destroy a piece of history. Bob built very very few custom audio boards and only for the famous folks noted above. I'm stoked as to what the mic pres are gonna sound like!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, from all the stuff I've been able to pull up on the net on Heils equipments it seems his stuff is pretty rare and awesome. Sounds like Bobs stuff is rare and wicked like the Helios and EMI console stuff. He got out of the more in depth equipment construction and design in 1980 I think and now he is just into mics. I emailed him to ask him for info about his strange old mixing board. Still waiting for reply. I'll say it again, I am stoked as to what the mic pres are gonna sound like.

Hey-------------------> I worked for Intense audio in 1999-2000 when they had the Rolling Stones mobile in for a tune-up. The truck had a silver Helios console with the Olympic type 69 pre's inside. When we had the pre's out the cards had "Olympic" factory etched in card. You can see this console in the Ten years After live record sleeve. The pre's had the lustraphone trannies unlike the later ones with Beyer trannies. I went to Olympic Studios in Richmond UK last year...it's a stunning studio and a cool little town.

I should have tried to buy this console before they caught on again

UAD has a Helios 69 plug in now I wonder if even sounds close at all.
This is a pre-that needs to have a DIY kit from SCA. There is a lot of demand for it.

Buddy, I know absolutely nothing about it. I will have it in my possession next week and will be able to tell you more unless Mr. Heil emails me something before then telling me about it. I have killed my self looking for info on this thing on the net and nothing. It may have been a custom job for someone. I know that for $81 shipped I didn't do to bad. I mean it was made in the late 60s or 70s and it was made by a Rock N Roll hall of famer who got in the rock hall cause of the awesome gear he made and the gears contribution to Rock music. ALso and from what I have read it is pretty much his mixers that have made him famous and the Heil talk box. It is looking good so far. Now if only the UPS Gorillas will be nice to it in route.

When I talked to the guy on the phone, he knew absolutely nothing about it or the Heil legacy or even Heil for that matter. He said they just got it and he hasn't even opened it up to see the guts and all. They just plugged it in and checked each channel and then closed it up and set it out on the floor. It works and all but Channel 7 works perfectly. No problem. I'll square that away. probably a bad jack.

Heil Equipment Moves to Rock Hall
Cleveland - Jun 5, 2006 - The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, which opened 10 years ago, houses equipment and memorabilia from all aspects of rock and roll music, including instruments, outfits and microphones. A display that opens on June 8 will highlight some equipment from a manufacturer who has found recent interest in broadcasting: Heil Sound. The company's founder, Bob Heil, has a long history in music performance and professional audio, and the Rock Hall display recounts some of this history.

Bob Heil, who has been a ham radio operator since he was 15, built equipment for use with his radio setup. He was also a theater pipe organist and played at the Fox Theater in St. Louis. His experience with electronics, music and audio taught him about listening and voicing.

Some of Heil's work in the 1960s and 1970s led him to work with several major performers, including the Who, Peter Frampton and Joe Walsh. According to Heil, "We did many things back in the late 60s and early 70s that set the standards for live sound--and some are still be used today."

The Rock Hall exhibit will include several pieces of Heil-designed equipment.
